Went there to take my boyfriend, my 81yr old mother and my son and his wife to this place because it was our favorite restaurant to go to. After today’s visit we will never go back there. The garlic bread was soggy, the batter fried shrimp was under cooked and cold. The egg rolls were cold. The corn on the cob was waterlogged and disgusting. The watermelon was woody and barely had a tint of pink to it. The banana salad with red sauce had rotten bananas in it. The pre packaged ice cream cups were melted and soupy. After taking a couple of bites, we thought we would try the salad bar and fruit. The grapes had fruit flies all over them. And the melon was not ripe and was hard as a rock. My boyfriend went to the cashier to speak with her about a refund because everything we tried was horrible. The cashier told him that we had been there for 30 mins already and could not get a refund at all. He came back to the table and I took the receipt from him and I went to the cashier to discuss her ability to tell time. We had only been there for 23 minutes. It’s a busy Sunday afternoon so it took us 15 mins to walk thru and choose our food and 5 mins to find out it was disgusting. The counters around the food were messy and we just wanted to leave by now. So I showed her that even after discussing the ticket refund with her the first time with my boyfriend, then me going up there only 25 minutes had passed since we purchased meal ticket. The cashier tried to argue with me and I just kept on raising my voice. First because she couldn’t tell time, then I went into detail about everything she was using to keep from refunding my $115 for the meals purchased. Yes that’s $25 per plate. The drink is separately charged. So $19.98 plus $2.00 for a drink plus tax. I told her the only reason we had gotten a second plate was because the first has us ready to throw up and rather than make the fuss I was now making, we were going to try and stomach the fruit or salads. After I saw all the fruit flies on the grapes I just about threw up. She insisted they could only refund me 1/2 of the entire ticket. I was so frustrated and sick to my stomach that I took it and we left immediately. In the parking lot we were discussing our unfortunate disappointment in Hibachi Grill and a man walked up to us and identified himself as a health & safety inspector. He was very concerned about us and felt we were handled inappropriately by the cashier. We met the criteria for having a FULL refund. (I did not even know there was a 30 minute time frame to complain by law.) We were entitled to the full refund. He grabbed his notebook and went to do what he does for a living and took a quick run through the establishment to see what we were talking about. As soon as they saw him come in and go straight for the service line they started wiping down counters and replacing old food with fresh food. He identified himself to them and continued his inspection. Found cross contamination in the back by the fryers and the prep tables were not cleaned and sanitized between uses. None of the employees were using hairnets or hats and long hair was not tied back. No thermometers in freezer nor the refrigeration units. Nothing to tell what temperatures the steam tables were at nor at the ice cream coolers. He had brought his wife there to eat for lunch and ended up going elsewhere himself. Because the cashier broke the law by not giving us a full refund. He was concerned that other customers had the same experience. I truly appreciated hearing we were not just imagining the careless handling of food products and sloppy attire. Since they would not let us speak to a manager, only to the cashier who was busy training a new employee, I hope this complaint reaches the proper chain of command. I was refunded half and I’m not happy what so ever. That woman could use some customer relations classes and a refresher course on telling time. Very very upset and full of disappointment. Hibachi Grill used to be our go to place. We will...
Read moreWARNING. One star is simply just not low enough. Save yourself the money and the stomachache and go to an establishment worth visiting, such as Osaka. This was our first time visiting this wretched place. This has been the biggest dining disappointment since moving to Arizona 3 years ago. I have never left a bad review before in my 27 years of life, but this is more than deserved. This place is an absolute joke, from paper plates and plastic cups to inattentive wait staff harassing and groveling for bigger tips. They had someone outside selling flea market novelty toys as if they do not already hit you over the head with their pricing, oh, and can't forget to mention that they charge extra on holidays, as we found out when going this past Memorial Day. There was more food on the floor than ever touched my plate. My fiancé, however, was braver than I was and has suffered greatly for it, with 24 hours straight of food poisoning, vomiting, and diarrhea beyond belief. The food was cold, the building reeked of fish (not in a good way), and as previously mentioned, the service was downright atrocious. I promise you, any other poor review you read about this place is spot on. Our waitress hovered over us as we put our tip on the card, was inattentive, and had to be flagged down like we were landing a plane just for a refill on one drink. After returning from getting our food, the final check and our fortune cookies were left on the table as if people were banging down the door to get in, and we were taking up valuable table space. After being rushed out, we were harassed to tip yet again in cash. I have contacted the Maricopa County Health Department to warn them of what is occurring here. I would have also made a complaint with the Better Business Bureau; however, they are not a BBB-accredited restaurant...go figure. I have additionally left this review on Yelp to prevent others from making the same mistake, so please, people,...
Read moreI’m of the philosophy that you just need to stuff your facehole with random Asian buffet fare sometimes (after sanitizing your hands of course), and this place delivers in spades.
The food is kept fresh (y’know, by buffet standards), the tables, floors and counters are kept reasonably clean, and there are choices galore ranging from the usual Americanized Chinese staples to sushi/sashimi to Japanese noodles to Mongolian stir-fry to dumplings to seafood.
The Orange Chicken is remarkably tasty, with little chunks of orange peel in the glaze and a level of crispiness to the breading that’s perfect. The sticky, bright red sweet-and-sour ribs were a messy highlight as well.
And of course this place has that tremendously fattening “Cheesy crab bake” dish that every Asian buffet seems to have for whatever reason, but it’s especially good here. Guilty pleasure of mine.
Most everything tastes really good (or as good as you could hope for), and even the cheap, starchy non-Asian fillers these places often throw in like French fries and garlic bread are tasty here (I don’t recommend the “pizza”, though. Leave that for the little kids)
The place is popular and can get crowded, and the dining areas may feel a bit cramped. At a buffet, that can potentially be a problem with all the families and little kids around. However, the service is honestly really good for a buffet, with wait staff regularly making the rounds to refill drinks.
These places tend to get a bad rap at times, which I can understand, but I do enjoy them once in awhile and Hibachi runs a perfectly decent and passable buffet operation here.
When done well, a huge meal at a Chinese/Nondescript Asian buffet just...
