2 adult children and I traveled from Prescott to meet my adult daughter who traveled up from Tucson to celebrate 2 birthdays.
Their site says wheelchair accessible... But it is not. My disabled daughter - who most often uses a cane- saw the stairs we had to take down to the room- that ended up being 2 flights- and expressed concern. She made it down slowly with help and had a lot of difficulty getting back up after. When we called afterwards, we were told disabled people have to ask for special rooms and apologized that we weren't offer the disabled room when she had difficulties. Bathrooms have a large step up to a platform to get to the toilet. Neither their website nor their confirmation email mentioned any inaccessibility, or we wouldn't have spent over $130. The activity was fun, the room was greatly decorated, and the puzzles were inventive. However, technical issues got in our way. Locks that held 20 numbers instead of the 4 presented in the beginning (the guide apologized) and electric candles that the guide even had problems getting blown out after she came in to help. The temperature in the room was too warm... We were sweating and spent time getting tissues out of my purse to wipe faces. Kat was wonderful! My adult daughter's call to the manager ended up with her in tears. Her disability was disrespected and she had to explain accessibility to them. The technical issues were blown off because no one else has had a problem. The solution offered was to offer a discount to come back - to the place that is not handicap accessible- if we...
Read moreMy husband and I are escape room enthusiasts and try out different escape room companies whenever we travel, but we ALWAYS come back to UEA every time we are in the area. Even though you need a minimum of 3 tickets to book a room, as long as you pay for the third, you can totally solve rooms with just two people - great for date night. And it is 100% worth it compared to other places we have been. They are just that good! The Mesa location is our favorite, of course. The stories and puzzles are unique, they have a huge number of rooms, and there is a wide variety of challenges for all experience levels. It is always so much fun! We have done a little bit of everything, from some of their hardest to some of their easiest - we even took my parents here for their first ever escape room experience, who were both a little nervous at the idea of trying it out, but they thoroughly enjoyed it. So far, we have done Detained, Hansel & Gretel, Lost Dutchman, and Lilith's Lair. Our goal is to keep coming back until we've done them all, which with 14 currently active rooms will take a while. Also, the UEA staff is also wonderful!!! They will talk with you beforehand about what to expect and your personal co.fort level with escape rooms to make sure they can provide the best possible experience for you and get you excited before you start. Don't be afraid to ask for help or hints once you're in the room either! Nick was our most recent game master and he was an absolute delight. Can't recommend this place enough! We will always keep...
Read moreOur family went here, with 2 kids under 10 years old on their first time. We were very close to solving the room (Lost Dutchman), and decided to do the "pay a little extra for 10 more minutes" that they offer. We made the signal we wanted to do that about 12 seconds before time was up. The room master/guide came in, after the time ran out, and said that to do the extra time, you must let them know 1.5-2 minutes before it is over. When asked why, she said something about needing time to "set it up." I still to this day have no idea why that matters, or what would need to be setup other than adding time and clues to a counter, but she refused to do it, and pushed us out quickly.
Looking back, she also failed to manually trigger a part of puzzle when it was solved, wasting a minute or more of our time and also confusing us. Due to the long delay (most likely she was not paying any attention to our progress in the room) we thought that a vital piece was used that triggered the late event, when in reality it wasn't. We then didn't think to use it elsewhere for one of the final puzzles.
I really just wanted to see my kids enjoyment cracking the mystery, and I feel like it was constricted a bit. The room/puzzle was well designed, fun, and challenging. There are enough of these establishments around, that we will most likely not go back due to our experience.
Also, they are not ADA compliant. Our son uses a wheelchair, and we had to get him up and down stairs to get to and...
