Golden West Restaurant & Casino — Attraction in Mesquite

Well, I’m kinda jumping the gun here but a customer of ours in St. George HIGHLY recommended this place so today, we will spend our Sunday afternoon driving to this place so we can try it. CANNOT WAIT!!

I will update my Review when we get back home tonight. It’s about a 45 min drive each way BUT, when a place like this gets an EXCELLENT Review from a trustworthy source, how can we not try it!

So my son and I took the drive from St. George, UT last night to try this famous food spot. It was a smaller place but it s in Mesquite so you cannot expect a lot. It’s definitely a locals place to grab a drink, burger and drop there money into the machines at. So how was it you are probably wondering. Well I ordered the Steak Sandwich which was smothered in Grilled Onions and Mushrooms on a toasted French Roll. My son had the Golden West Burger which was loaded with goodies. I wasn’t too impressed with the Steak Sandwich. I did ask our server about what are the best tasting and ordered most and the Stesk Sandwich was not even mentioned so I should have listened to the pro who has worked here for a long time. Now my son has the Burger and was in complete amazement at how good it was and luckily, he wanted me to try a bite and that is what I did. The Golden West Burger was now the #1 BEST Burger either of us had ever tasted! We are food junkies and we love a great meal and Golden West has taken the seat for BEST Burger followed 2nd by a place in St. George called “One Hot Grill” and 3rd would actually be “Smash Burger”. We have gone here quite a few times, and have always had good service and good food. Today was an exception. We had a waiter that did not have any people skills. We arrived at around 11:00 AM, and it was not as busy as usual. Our waiter was a heavier weight guy with slicked back hair (I did not get his name, so for this review we will refer to him as Mr unacceptable) He first took our drink order, and brought my Wife the wrong pop. He then took our food order. He disappeared for around 20 minutes. When he brought out our food he was short with us (seemed like he was feeling rushed). I asked him for our toast that came with our meal. He snapped back and said you want toast, and I replied it comes with our meal according to the menu. He said well you didn’t tell me you wanted toast (again it’s part of the menu item). He snapped again and said what do you want? I said I will have wheat, and my wife said she will have white. Approximately 10 minutes later he returns with our toast and seemed less stressed than earlier. The wheat toast was burned black, and he brought my wife rye toast. The rest of our meal from the kitchen was excellent. We left no tip for this server. In my opinion he is in the wrong line of work. We eat out at many restaurants and have never been treated more rude by a server. Again, we have always previously had excellent service and food in the past. We will not let this one time define this restaurant, but management may want to look at this...

This is a locals-favorite small casino with a restaurant and bar. The menu selections are good and I opted for the patty melt on sourdough. I ordered it medium and it usually comes out as ordered but this time it was overcooked. Not my best menu choice. Hubby had the tacos plate which were three tacos, either soft flour or crispy corn tortillas. He enjoyed the plate but passed on the rice since he's trying to watch his carbs. Word of caution this is an older casino/restaurant and does not have adequate air filtration for the amount of cigarette smoke, so if you have health issues it may not be the place for you. There is a small dining room area in the back of the restaurant where no smoking is allowed but it is still smokey.

Revised 5/22/19:. They are now advertising that they have a new ventilation system that eliminates a lot of the smoke. I have not been back since the renovation but definitely will go again. They do have daily specials and some really good and reasonably priced food and that's always a...
