During my recent visit to Calle Ocho, I was truly immersed in the vibrant culture and lively atmosphere of Little Havana. The street was bustling with energy, filled with colorful murals, the rhythmic sounds of salsa music, and the enticing aromas of authentic Cuban cuisine.
One of the highlights of my visit was Guantanamera Cafe and Lounge. The ambiance was inviting, and the live music added an extra touch to the already electric atmosphere. The mojitos were perfectly crafted, and the Cuban sandwiches were simply delightful.
I also stopped by Azucar Ice Cream - Little Havana for a sweet treat. The variety of flavors was impressive, and each scoop was rich and creamy. Their signature "Abuela Maria" flavor, with its combination of guava, cream cheese, and Maria cookies, was a unique and delicious experience.
Old's Havana Cuban Bar & Cocina was another gem on Calle Ocho. The decor transported me back to old Cuba, and the food was absolutely authentic. The ropa vieja was cooked to perfection, and the plantains were a perfect complement.
For a quick coffee break, Cortadito Coffee House in Coral Gables was a must-visit. The coffee was strong and flavorful, giving me the perfect pick-me-up to continue exploring the area.
Overall, my visit to Calle Ocho was an unforgettable experience. The vibrant culture, delicious food, and friendly people made it a highlight of my time in Miami. I highly recommend taking a stroll down this iconic street to anyone...
Read moreWe visited Little Havana for about 3 hours from late morning to early morning on a Saturday. We parked roadside and paid via the parking app. Maximum was 3 hours before having to move or renew parking. Traffic was pretty heavy as was the steady flow of fellow tourists and sightseers. We did not opt for one of the bus tours or walking tours; but instead made our own walking tour. We started at a espresso shop La Colada and from there ended at TUMBA'O where we ate lunch. (I will review these on their own websites)
It was fun to see all the Cuban decor, cigars, art murals on buildings and of course souvenirs.
Important things if note: It is very hot. Make sure to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated. Bathrooms were in businesses where they expect you to buy. Parking was a bit crazy as was the crowd of people. Families with small children might benefit from a stroller or wagon. There were many shops and places to eat. We enjoyed a few of these.
Hope this is...
Read moreWe try to get down to Calle Ocho every chance we get especially with our Cuban friends who always take us to the best restaurants. It never gets boring in Little Havana and that's what I love about it.
There's great food from several different countries: Cuba, Nicaragua, Colunbia, Peru, Argentina just to name a few. There are many tobacco/cigar shops. Knick knack shops for souveniers. Great ice cream shops like Azucar's! Fun vibrant art painted on buildings. Impromptu and scheduled parades and festivals. Spanish being spoken everywhere you go. And the best part is to watch the old-timers playing dominoes in the parking lots/sidewalks.
Mass traffic on Calle Ocho (SW 8th) with no where to park so go past it a couple of blocks and park in that area or take Uber or a transit bus.
No matter what, you will have fun there! Wear comfortable shoes, summer clothes, a hat,...
