Although my experience in having lunch here was not driven by actually having a fulfilled lunch experience but more about meeting up with a good friend and having a business meeting I am encouraged to give them 5 stars due to the well oiled machine feeling it had. My friend and I shared one of their meat platters. A 1lb picanna, i believe. He had a lemonade, and I ordered my first beer on tap in more than a year. The food was fine, well cooked meats and also well seasoned, no surprise there as I have visited another Toro Loco location in the past. I was surprised, though, at the tasty Toro Loco Draft beer I had, it exceeded my expectations, especially since I ordered that one over all of the other brand beers. But as usual, what drives me to or inspires a detailed review is service. Great or terrible. That is what stays on my mind and tells me whether to come back or not to a business. First, I was taken aback when a police officer in civilian clothes allowed us in through the velvet rope, as though we were entering a trending night club over the weekend. Then it dawned on me that we were in the Little Havana area, and I'm sure that more than one has gotten crazy over their meat, and police may have been called. So kudos to the restaurant for paying for this and keeping their staff safe, because I know that this has to come from them. Very quickly, everyone who encountered us greeted us with a friendly smile and found us a table. Mary, our server, who was super eloquent and sweet, had her menu and specials memorized to the t. She quickly and effortlessly but clearly informed us of all of it before she was able to come back up for air. The manager, meanwhile, was aware of everything that was going on with his staff and touching tables as a good business owner does. It was the kind of well-oiled machine that no matter what, one wishes this team and this business to do well. One thing I noticed is that all the servers were female. Compared to my previous experience at a Kendall location, all the servers were male. My friend said that they were all male at night time when he had been there in the past. To me, that is an obvious move from a company/manager who is so aware and in tune with the staff and their needs that create a schedule that makes their staff's safety and needs a...
Read moreI truly wanted to post a positive review. I went to a food truck and experience was not positive. So I went to the actual restaurant for a genuine experience. Yep.. nope ..the restaurant has even worse service in person … I waited over 40 minutes in person for CARRY OUT…. When I finally gave up because my allotted time for lunch was over and there was no time left to actually eat the lunch. I told the servers I needed to leave wanted a refund..and I NEEDED TO LEAVE …. I was forced to wait longer because clearly English was a problem… I no longer needed the food, had zero time left to even eat a quick bite before returning to work. WHY FORCE ME TO WAIT EVEN LONGER AND TRY TO FORCE ME TO PAY AND TAKE THE FOOD WITH ME? It is 5pm and I still have zero time available to sneak a bite of food… and you wanted me to pay over $60 for a lunch that would be ice cold by now… clearly other carry out orders have the priority and anyone coming into the restaurant in person for carry out is clearly lower priority than using food delivery apps or people dining in … I did not have the time to wait for delivery services and local restaurants have told me over and over it costs them less if we carry out on our own because of the fees they are charged by uber eats, Postmates etc. so cold in person carry out or cold delivery is normal for this establishment … blame the restaurant or delivery service? I blame both but can clearly say it won’t be good either way. Will be more expensive for the restaurant and myself to use delivery service… so if it’s a one off… blame the delivery service… maybe you will get your ice cold meal … but no one waits 40 minutes for carry out and accepts it ..in order for your restaurant to provide carry out service with out the outrageous fees …. Hopefully you gifted the food to homeless on the street. Because forcing me to purchase it and take it with me after 40 minutes of waiting was not acceptable to make me wait even longer to accept the food ..I no longer had time to eat. Please make...
Read moreWent there for my birthday dinner (may 10) around 1030pm - it was very busy but we got seated early which was a plus.
Mailien was our server - service started off ok but being as we were sat right in front of the entertainment outside it was very hard to speak to my bf who was right beside me and mailien herself as she was explaining the menu. We ordered our food and got the food in a timely manner.
As the dinner went on, service went downhill. My bf requested a stella beer in a bottle as it was on the menu - it came, but he recieved a can. (not a big deal, but the drink itself was poured into the cup by the server and was nothing but foam afterwards). He bit his tongue and drank it anyway and requested another bottled stella after he was done.
The second beer came very late - we had to stop 3 different people ( not our server) to ask for it incase it was forgotten and it arrived at the end of our dinner when we were finished; in a can, again.
The same instance happened - poured by the server even though my bf requested he could pour it himself to reduce the foam situation or simply drink it out of the can. She sluffed him off / ignored him and gave him a bit of attitude and poured it anyway.
We then sat around for about 20 minutes or so after eating waiting for our server to come by to request the check.
This last couple interactions soured our experience. We were going to order dessert for myself, as it was my birthday, but opted not to as we were both very annoyed.
Overall, food was good. Atmosphere was very overwhelming and loud. Service was so/so. Maybe we just hit a rough spot during the...
