The program, a fund-raiser for the Metroplotan Librsry Trust (OKC, OK) was "A Conversation with author James Patterson" on publication of hus latest book, "The Secret Lives of Booksellers and Librarians - True Stories of the Magic of Reading." The venue is a beautiful facility, and the radiused entrance to the lobby opens on to spacious public areas with ticketing and will call, refreshments, and varied informal seating arrangements. There are several doors providing access to the theater proper, with easily visible row & seat numbers. Volunteer ushers were on hand to direct patrons to their reserved seating. Visability of the stage was good due to sloped seating. Seating was comfortable, stage lighting was good for this type of staging, but the sound was inadequate. The problem seemed to be poor placement of the personal microphones on the two speakers, plus inadequate gain. The audience was a mix of ages, including many seniors. Surely, I was not the only half-deaf person in the audience. I understood only about 1/2 of the speaking. Unfortunately, Mr. Paterson's voice was particularly difficult to fully understand, for two reasons: microphone placement, so that when he turned from facing the moderator on his right toward the audience on his left, he turned away from his mic and his volume dropped appreciably; 2) Mr. Pattetson's speaking style was very conversational and informal, perfect for this setting, except his voice projection, volume, and emphasis varied too much for the sound system to handle well. Not being a residentof the OKC area, I may not have another opportunity to attend a program at Rose State College's Hudiburg Chevrolet Center performing arts theater. But if I can, I...
Read moreWe attended the Russian Ballet Nutcracker at Rose state college. The ballet was AMAZING!!! The only complaint IF I had to make 1 would be... their picture policies. At the beginning, the announcement came over the speaker, " No Flash Photography". Completely understandable! Approx, 10 people in my area were taking pics without flash. Some usher came up almost at intermission and informed everyone, no pictures taking was allowed. Wanting to abide to the rules, everyone stopped, except for the guy standing in everyone's way up by the stage. Approx half-way through the 2nd act, the she usher came up and apologized, and then informed us that picture taking WAS allowed, as long as there was no flash. Sad really as the family behind us stormed out due to the fact that they missed the opportunity to get pictures of their daughter, or family member in the show, from what we could gather. I suppose, I would just say maybe these ppl should get it together at the pre-event meeting. It REALLY REALLY distracted from the event, and even made a family leave due to misinformation. Just remember... Apologies are just like a Fart...
Read moreI saw weird al here. AL and the band were great. The venue though was sub par. I purchased two box seats. When we arrived we were seated incorrectly. After speaking to the people in "our" seats we asked the usher where exactly we were supposed to be seated. When we got to our seats the chairs were not great. When you leaned back it felt like you were supposed to be at an observatory or a laser show. You could only see the ceiling. Our new neighbors coughed too much to not be sick. Covid? Idk but I asked the staff for a mask and they didn't have any. So good show but...
