I took 2 classes at this college and only one of my professors was amazing and very helpful. the financial aid office is mean and they don't explain anything to you. I visited the President to talk to him about issues with financial aid and two days after speaking with him I was on financial warning and the lady in financial aid told me it was because I had dropped out of classes in 2009 in a different college in a different state so I had to "make up" the hours I withdrew from. Also my academic advisor lied to me about what classes they had available in order for me to tranfer to Texas A&M University. I had a list from Texas A&M and there was 12 classes on the list, Rose State only had 2 classes and told me if I were to get an AS degree in science from them I could transfer but when I went to Texas A&M the Dean of that section told me they didn't have what I needed so I am having to tranfer to a different city college that offers more classes and that has a student services department for tutoring which Rose State doesn't have unless you are a veteran and they only have tutors for certain classes not for all classes that they have in the catalog. I would not recommend going to Rose State because they do everything they can to deny you in financial aid and the academic advisors tell you what you want to hear so you attend. It was a waste of my financial aid to attend...
Read moreI'm currently a 30 y.o. male, military marine corps veteran going here for criminal justice. I decided to bust the rust and get into college using my Montgomery G.I. Bill. Thus far, it's been a great experience! ALL of the staff are extremely helpful, professors are extremely knowledgeable and love helping students, even if you have profound questions. You can start clubs here, like I just did, and really give back to your community if you choose to do that. Don't get me wrong, gen ed classes suck but it is a necessary evil. The professors here are who truly sells this college for me. Some notable professors, by last name, are: Kirkman (English), Johnson (Criminal Justice), Fitzgerald (English), Norton (Sociology), Honig (Political Science), and Hall (Criminal Justice). These professors have truly made my experience incredible, and I wish I could keep learning from them! I hope this review helps you out on deciding what college you want to attend.
Oh, also, bonus information. ALL of your credits from Rose State College WILL transfer to UCO, if that's something you're...
Read moreExcellent college however the residence life is dismissive of suggestions and refuses to acknowledge problems such as when the gates are open people who don't pay for parking are parking inside the village residence, if you work you're penalized by a "first come, first served" policy (because how dare you contribute to society and actually work while going to college) that doesn't apply to staff who have their own reserved spots for parking near the buildings, dismissing the idea of doing region based parking for those who live near say building D to have parking near building D reserved for them and C gets parking near C, and so on. Went to the residence life office and was dismissed despite the sentiment being shared and having another student agree with the idea, which seemed a reasonable proposal. The housing life could do with having less stubbornness and actually having a process to allow suggestions to be voted on and approved rather than dismissing them. Feels more like you're living under tyranny you're paying for instead of a mutual...
