House of Stone, Inc — Attraction in Milwaukee

Our countertops turned out amazingly beautiful, and are perfect. The countertop installers themselves were amazing - they were quick, problem solving, informative, and overall a group of friendly men. Now the reason for 3 stars would be the actual business aspect. Brenda was the main person we were dealing with, and she does not comprehend what you are trying to tell her 80% of the time. We had to call the business MULTIPLE times AFTER being told they would call us back later that day. Almost all contact done throughout the process of our countertops getting measured, to getting them installed, was done by us reaching out first. To start off, when they came to measure they came two hours early, when we were not home, and hyped up our dogs despite being told not to show up during this time period. This situation actually happened as our second time having them come out, as the first time they were scheduled they simply didn’t show up. I called and they stated that he had gotten tied up on a job and couldn't come anymore, which is typically fine, but they did not even alert us. We split our initial down payment between two cards, a normal thing right? Apparently not, as they “lost” the record of one of the transactions, and were trying to tell us we owed more than agreed upon in our contract. Suddenly they managed to find this record after lots of talking with them. They call at any time of the day, typically in the morning, even after being told that we work full time jobs, and can not typically be on the phone till after 2pm. Brenda seemed astonished and caught off guard that we couldn’t spend insane amounts of time on the phone explaining things over and over. I cannot recommend them. My wife looked at a remnant for a small bathroom project and described it to them. We received the quote and the drawing was not correct. I emailed them pointing this out and the response I got back was that it was all good. Fast forward a couple of weeks when I was ready to sign contract for the install and I questioned it again and suddenly they increased the price several hundred dollars claiming that it needed to be cut on a different machine. I reminded them that they had the plan several weeks prior but they would not budge on the price - wouldn’t even split the difference. To be honest, I don’t think they ever looked at the original drawing I sent them. Not sure how you can run a countertop business if you don’t look at the drawings. At that point I walked away given their inflexibility and not even trying to fix their error.

The positive is that we ended up going with K.G. Stevens and could not have been happier. Although it was a small job, you would have thought we were completing a full kitchen. Bella understood what we were looking for, pulled different slabs and then kept looking until she found exactly what we wanted. Install is done and we couldn’t be happier. We highly recommend Bella.

I found House of Stone through a simple google search. I took the time to compare 5 different stone companies in the Milwaukee area from price to average turn-around time to friendliness of staff. When showing up in jeans & t-shirt most places didn’t take me seriously not to mention told me it would be minimum 2-3 weeks for measurement appointment & then 5-6 weeks from time of measure to install. House of Stone was the only place that made me feel comfortable when discussing options, answered all my questions and allowed me time to think through my choices not pressuring me into making an appointment or putting money down. Also, once I was ready I had a measurement appointment within a week (Todd was amazing!) and my quartz counter tops with full backsplash were ready to be installed in just a couple weeks (Todd & Eddy were so great to work with!). The install was so easy & the countertops looked absolutely beautiful. House of Stone wasn’t the cheapest of the 5 places I compared.
