This place was the only thing on the to-do list when my party first arrived in St. Louis. The building and location are very nice and clean, and not the typical warehouse-type building you normally see for escape rooms. The staff was one of the friendliest, helpful, and entertaining that I've ever come across.
My party (two of us) did the DaVinci's Workshop room and it was very well put together. It wasn't all about art or inventions like I was expecting, and the puzzles were really fun to work through. It did seem a little linear towards the middle, to the point where it felt like a big group would have people not doing anything at certain times because there was only one thing to work on. We were able to escape the room with about 12 minutes remaining and only using one clue (which we almost didn't need...ugh!).
After the obligatory picture, we got to sign the wall with the other thousands of names written all over them, which was pretty cool that we hadn't seen before. If returning to the St. Charles location, they recommended the Diamond Heist, and the St. Louis location they recommended The Castle and Creepy Lair. The next time we come back to St. Louis, these rooms will definitely be at the top...
Read moreWe have done many escape rooms in different cities and countries...and this one was sort of disappointing. By far the worst one we have done. We did the Davinci Room with 5 people and it was way too easy and only took us 30 minutes to escape. There are no real activities to do in this room, or objects to look through...just a series of number puzzles to solve and locks to unlock. We are used to rooms where a door is opened and you pass into a secret/second/third room....and this one did not have any of that. It was only one small, sparsely filled room. Definitely do not do this one with children (its way too boring for them and there is nothing to search for) or anyone who has ever done an escape room before...it's just too easy. Ideally we would put 3 or 4 people in the room...definitely not 8. There are not enough simultaneous puzzles to solve...it pretty much goes sequentially and only 2 or 3 people can work on something at the same time while the rest are just standing around waiting. We expressed our disappointment to the staff and they just told us that we figured things out faster than other people. Which is fair. By paying $180 for 30 minutes is not very...
Read moreMy family and I went to Mastermind St. Charles last Saturday night. The place appeared clean and the staff was friendly. We signed up for the Diamond Heist room at 7:45pm. We had been in the room for about 30+min before my son found a key that enabled us to retrieve the diamond and escape the room, without having to complete the given tasks. When I asked over the intercom how to finish the puzzles, the room master said that the key my son found was lost from the last group that went through and was not supposed to be where it was found. I inquired about how to solve the remainder of the puzzle and she said that there was no need because we found the key. She came to the room and when I asked, "Can you tell us how we would have solved the remaining 3 locks", she said that she did not have time to discuss because the room was scheduled for the next group was coming. So we never did figure out what we would have had to do to escape. My family and I were quite disappointed at how the whole thing was handled. Especially since our game...
