When it comes to food, trying out a “new place” is hit-or-miss. Thankfully, when I took a chance and entered the drive-thru lane of the Pretzel Stop, I discovered what could be St. Peters’ best kept secret. For now I’m featuring photos of the mouthwatering Bacon Cheeseburger. In the recent past, I’ve sampled their Cubano sandwich and Chicken Salad sandwich... but wolfed them down before I thought to snap some Instagram worthy photos!
The Pretzel Stop is owned by a family that moved to the Midwest from the East coast (making me think of the warm, chewy Philadelphia-style soft pretzels). The flavor, texture, and density of the pretzel are spot-on: a hint of sweetness balanced with a touch of salt. The buns they use for sandwiches are thick, but sized just right that you enjoy the taste of both the pretzel and your meat of choice. Their idea of “gourmet sandwiches” is true to the concept. Bread is terrific, meat is flavorful, veggies are crunchy and look like they were picked that same day! If you like the unfiltered photos I’ve taken of the bacon cheeseburger I had for lunch today, you’ll love how it tastes even more. Same goes for the other food items they offer. This is “slow food” restaurant quality... not the fast food junk we’ve so often picked for a quick bite.
So far I’ve emphasized on the quality of the food here. You’ll also be impressed by the Pretzel Stop staff. They’re friendly, courteous, and are able to prepare your sandwich as quickly as a fast food crew. Make sure to inquire about their rewards program and you might get a little something on your birthday 😉.
If you happen to be in the Jungermann area at lunchtime, swing by The Pretzel Stop drive-thru for a change. You’ll be supporting a local family business and enjoying honest to goodness...
Read moreHave you ever eaten at a restaurant that made you feel like you'd stumbled across some sort of buried treasure, discovering a prize that was hidden in plain view? Pretzel Stop in St. Peters elicits that feeling. The name is as deceiving as is it fitting, since while there is far more on offer here than simple pretzels, it is the string that ties the menu together. Enjoying my favorite sandwich, the decadent pretzel cheeseburger, I have to wonder why there's often only one or two other people in the restaurant eating. I see cars at the surrounding fast-food dives - why is it that there are not more people here? Crunching through my side of garlic pretzel chips, which are made on-site, I have to rack my brain why anyone would spend their money at the generic fast-food chains nearby when there is an impressive locally-owned eatery nestled right in the middle of them. There is truly something for everyone here, as they've come up with a number of clever ways to mash up pretzels with other dishes. Pizza, but with a pretzel crust. Hot dogs and brats, but with a pretzel bun baked on. They've recently introduced more refined plates, like the Pretzel Cubano and the sweet-and-smokey Bourboun Chicken sandwich. They've even put pretzel desserts on offer, by fusing pretzel bites and ice cream together in a way that works far better than you'd expect. Of course they have regular old pretzels as well - which are fantastic - but even the humble pretzel has a dash of flair at the Stop, twisting the dough into fun and seasonal shapes that are promoted throughout the year. If you find yourself in the area, you really must visit Pretzel Stop. Think of this review as the "X" on Google Maps that marks...
Read moreMixed thoughts, but their reply speaks volumes. I took 6+ trips before leaving an honest review. So I made adjustments to seem less like a competitor, which I didn't even know there was one.
First visit was amazing, but the CHICKEN salad bun was extremely cold, not frozen, but absolutely not thawed to a chewy fashion. The cinnamon bites tasted oddly disgusting, as if the oil was dirty or their cinnamon was coated in expired fennel. Never tasted ANYTHING like it. We tried to discuss this the first visit, but they don't pay attention to doors or answer their phone. They expect us to wait in line for our dissatisfaction. So we just won't get them ever again.
Second visit was FIRE, I mean soooo incredibly amazing.
The next couple visits were filled with happiness, but inconsistent amounts of unsalted pretzel bites. We drive a long way, so to us, consistency is key.
Beyond food, the hours make zero sense. 7am-6pm? But Sunday it's 5pm! And Monday it's NOpm. The 6pm kills us. (That said, I'm huge believer in owners setting what works for them. So, I'm not complaining, just making it VERY clear this is not a drive-thru you run to when you have a craving. It's a check-before-you-go, planned visit eatery that happens to offer curbside service through a window.)
Oh, and I don't love the size options for unsalted pretzel bites though. But otherwise, it's...
