El Maguey — Restaurant in Saint Peters

We had a bad experience tonight at El Maguey. When we were seated there were chips on the floor underneath the table and chairs. Then the little guy who passes out the salsa and chips came over. He spilled some salsa on a menu then proceeded to throw the silverware onto the spilled salsa. He came to my end of the table and I tried to explain to him what had happened. He got all pissy and went back and took two of the three sets of silverware off and threw them toward my MOTHER. He left the menu with the salsa on it in front of my wife. This is also a person I witnessed use the restroom and NOT WASH HIS HANDS!!! This guy also likes to shake everybody’s hands!!! That’s when the waiter came over and I explained to him what had happened, and he said he would send the manager over. The first chance I saw the manager free, I went up to him and explained the situation. He told me there was nothing he could do. He said he could give me a discount. I said I don’t care about a discount, your employee threw silverware towards my mother and doesn’t wash his hands after he uses the restroom. I told him we were never coming back. We go their almost every Sunday. I said I wanted to speak to the owner. They told me he wasn’t there, and he will be back next week, and his name is a Mario. The manager didn’t handle the situation well at all. The waiter was great he agreed that this was handled very badly. We won’t be returning until I speak with the owner. Food was ok. Place was not busy at all. Took 30+ minutes from the time we were seated to place order. 20+ minutes to get food. 4 adults, 1 infant and 1 toddler. Our waiter served food and NEVER returned to check on us or refill drinks. Even when we asked two different servers to ask our server to come back. I was seated where I could watch the waiters inform our waiter we needed service but he continued to piddle around in the kitchen, waited on other tables but never came back to ours! We finally asked a very pleasant young lady for refills and she happily attended to us. The only time we saw our waiter come back to our table was as we were leaving and he said " adios amigos" as a manager collected our money. My wife told the manager about the bad service but he didn't seem to care. Our waiter was a tall man with one eye off (crooked), so if you ever get him as a waiter immediately request someone else!!! Probably will not continue giving our business to this restaurant location. I have never in my life had the bad service I received on this particular night. Won't be spending our hard-earned money there anymore nor would we recommend this...

This is a popular Mexican restaurant franchise in St Charles County. This particular location offers the same menu items as the others in the St Charles Area. The experience is traditional with some authentic Mexican Cuisine. The quality of the food is okay but this is not your destination for high-quality Mexican Cuisine. The salsa is very mild and the hot sauce is mild as well if you're a fan of hot salsa this is not the location for you. Probably the best option on the menu is the fajitas mixed. The service was immediately friendly and inviting certainly at El Maguey I've always had a wonderful experience with their employees. Friendly fun and family-orientated this is definitely a destination that the entire family would enjoy together or as your out for a quick bite for lunch at work this is the place to go. This is not a very expensive Mexican restaurant so you will not be discouraged by the cost....
