My mom, my ESA and I visit Monterey just to go here, we absolutely love it! Now I would have given 5 stars but the past 2 visits haven't been the best with 2 specific staff members; a tall, older white woman and an average-height white male who I think had glasses and slightly thinning hair. When we visit we enjoy looking at the antiques, curious by their history and of course I enjoy the aesthetically-pleasing show lots upstairs where I usually take photos of myself in these settings. Now, the second-to-last time we visited, I felt pretty targeted by the lady, I was in the Alice in Wonderland set up lot, admiring the look and really wanted to take a few photos there. It was near closing time in which they made an announcement so I tried to hurry, however I felt someone behind me in the doorway, she stood behind for quite sometime so I didn't take my photos immediately as I got shy. Finally I turn around to acknowledge her presence and she told me in a rude tone that they were closing. Yet, she continued to watch me for a few minutes more and I acted as if I was still looking around because I wanted her to leave so I could take my photos, that's when I noticed one of those dated sliding phones charging on a table next to me so I told her. She replied in a cutthroat absolutely rude tone, "I know, this is my space," I hadn't put two and two together but I guess she had thought I wanted to steal her ugly phone which I most definitely didn't (lol) but her attitude and possible racial profiling definitely made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Our last time we visited I did see the lady again but she left us alone, this time we saw the man most definitely too often. I'm not sure if it's coincidence, if he was actually working on an assignment or what exactly but every 5 minutes (literally) he would come to our area almost speed walking and do rounds. He did this even when we went upstairs and it definitely upset my mother and made our experience subpar. Not sure what he was doing but it felt like he was trying to watch us. Again, I love this place and we visit so often and usually find great deals but these two staff, especially the older white woman make me feel uneasy to return.
Aesthetically-pleasing photos for reference...
Read moreProbably the worst, scammy antique mall I ever been to. Found 3 glasses, each with the same exact physical design, just different colors. One Blue/Clear, Frosted White, and the other Normal Clear. The first 2 were 16.50 and then 12.50, and the last one didn't have a price tag, however, considering how the first 2 were, natural assumption would dictate the 3rd to be a different price as well, right? Wrong.
Took it to the cashier, who, right off the bat, seemed like she just really wanted to be done with her day already and didn't wanna be there. Idk what kind of system they were using, but they weren't even able to look up the actual item to make sure they had the right price and couldn't even answer WHY one was a higher price than the other when they were literally the same exact thing. Just that one was this price and the other was another price.
And as for the one with a missing tag, just made up a price off the top of her head that was just the same price as the 12.50 one.
This is all while being extremely rude as well, Always talking over me this entire interaction, never letting me get any kind of word in whatsoever, while having the biggest smug grin ever as if they were proud of what they're doing.
Had they not been having a 50% off sale anyway on that specific item, I woulda just walked out. Lady, if you're reading this, idk what kinda downward spiral your life is going through, but regardless of what it is, this is no way to treat...
Read moreI'm going to review this as a reseller first. This isn't the place you want to go if you're looking for items with any room for profit. I did find a few items with some meat on the bone but they were because of booth discount. Most items are marked up to retail and other items are delusionally high.... Like they are not up to date on the current market. Now my review as a buyer: They have tons of neat and unique items, if you love Fenton they have some great pieces upstairs. Be sure to research items before you buy, I did see a few items that were mislabeled. Also some items price tags were so old you couldn't read them which is annoying ... I assume the price was to high which is why it has sat for so long. Aside from that it's fun to walk around and look at. The staff was incredibly nice...
