Mount Shasta is made more fun by having good gear! The Fifth Season Inc philosophy of successful competition with the online mammoth retailers is key and many companies should follow this example. Spend a bit more to positively affect the long-term effect of industry on us as a people. This is similar to the reasons to avoid companies having a monopoly where they control too much of a market and competition is quashed by dominance. When competition cannot thrive injustice gains power. When you buy based on lowest price only, you create injustice because you are supporting cutthroat methodology. When you support wisdom in operations and people earning right living, you generate good karma and help fight the ripcurl that will haunt many as the giant companies become more controlled by AI (artificial intelligence) applied through performance evaluating metrics that are then used by corporate directors to make decisions impacting millions of people. Mount Shasta is made more fun by having good gear! Fifth Season has most angles covered and is also a great source of dialed adventure info.    Read moreEverything was great until ! I rented a pair of boots from them . Renter be aware ! If you rent boots to climb Mtn Shasta from this company you might as well stay in the parking lot at the Bunny Head . I climbed May 15th and there was a good amount of snow . Well it was slush going up and the boots that I rented did not hold up . Not even an hour into the climb on boots were soaked my feet were wet and cold not even that but after hours of climbing the wet boots ate my feet up with blisters . The assent climb the next day I couldn’t even put them on they were so wet. I had on Gaiters as well! It ruined my trip that I had planned for months and paid for and came from Florida tô California for . Very let down ! So when I went to return the equipment I spoke to two different employees. One told me they can’t guarantee that the boots wouldn’t get saturated. I was with 4 other guys and their boots were dry. I was really let down and a whole trip wasted over a pair of boots that were needless to say pathetic! To top it off they didn’t seem to care or even want to do anything about it . I mentioned they need to get better boots and throw the ones they had to rent away . Do not rent boots from...
Read moreDecent selection but with the worst, arrogant attitude towards customers and I buy A LOT of gear. First time went in to look at backpacks for an upcoming international trip (i.e. Also needed a sleeping bag, rain jacket, new approach shoes, etc!!!). The first older lady "didn't know much about backpacks", had only been "working there since January." So I waited around for about 30min, then got tired of waiting w/ no help. That was annoying but understandable. This second time, not a single person even said hello in the 45+min it took me to look through and try on pretty much every bag they had available. I had questions, but no one came up to me, so I left. Mentioned to the same guy that I was going to buy online b/c no one even came up to me. Gave me an arrogant attitude that they were short staffed. Sorry, I couldn't bring you away from your lengthy chit-chat w/ someone who came in after me only wanted to give you money. I always try to buy local gear shops than a big-box retailer, but in this case, go w/ REI. I wouldn't have written this had he honestly apologized, and might have even still bought from them. But, this was just the worst customer service I've experience at...
