Art Frame Studio (by PAOLO MEJIA fine arts and design) — Attraction in Mountain View

I visited Paolo at the Art Frame Studio this morning and I'm still smiling this afternoon.

I brought in a small 5"x7" watercolor that a precious niece painted for me when we visited the churning seas in Carmel. I had already purchased the frame, but needed a mat.

Paul has a discerning eye and found just the right color. He also noticed the tiny missing piece in the upper corner that our cat had had his wicked way with. He magically made this imperfection disappear.

I mentioned it would be nice to have the mat ready when my niece's parents came for a visit next week. Well. Paul set to work straight away and cut the mat perfectly. Sheer perfection!

When I asked how much I owed him, he waved the thought away and said "Not a thing." I ask you, how often does that happen? This was a kind and generous offer that reassured me that despite the turmoil in the world, there are some genuinely good people who are deeply talented at their craft and will happily share their gifts with their fellow humans.

The workmanship on the frame was really nice, but Paolo felt entitled to display the painting in the shop window without asking for permission. The painting was a portrait of my grandmother by a friend of hers, so I feel sentimental about it, and it was never intended as a show piece. After noticing it on display as I was walking down Castro St in the evening, I emailed Paolo to ask to remove it from the window. He replied he could not while the shop was closed. When I picked it up two days later at mid-day, on the next day the shop was open, it was still in the window; Paolo had forgotten to take it down. It seemed inconsiderate. Outstanding service and expertise! I walked into this place with a canvas for my teenage daughter and was blown away by the level of care and attention I received.
