I had the rudest experience here last night. I came in around 5:40 and there were two young employees working one guy and one girl. I come here often because I love the chocolate carmello crunch (chocolate gelato with chocolate covered toffee pieces throughout). I ordered and left. When I got outside I took a bite and realized there was no toffee pieces at all it was just chocolate gelato. It also tasted a little off like it was made with fake sugar instead of real sugar. I went back inside and very nicely asked if maybe I received the wrong gelato, the guy responded saying "that's the chocolate carmello" I said "oh it's just not right there actually isn't any carmello crunch in it it just tastes like chocolate gelato" to which he said in a very rude tone "I can make it again but it's just going be the same" so I basically repeated myself telling them I was just letting them know it was a bad batch and missing the toffee pieces. He said "that's the chocolate carmello" I said "yes but it's missing the carmello crunch that's what I'm trying to tell you" he goes "that's the chocolate carmello and shrugs" then the girl chimes in saying "that's the chocolate carmello" I repeat myself again just saying the carmello pieces are missing. It's just chocolate gelato. The guy says "well I don't know what you want then" I respond with "well a refund since it's not correct" he storms over grabs cash out of the register throws it on the counter and storms off. While he's doing this I'm starting to get upset because I literally could not have been any nicer and yet they both were acting so rude and not listening to what I was trying to explain to them so I was trying to defend myself a little by saying "it's just that I come here all the time I love this gelato it's just not right and that's okay" to which he just responded the same "that's the chocolate carmello" so no matter what I said or did in this situation I was just wrong. After he threw the cash on the counter I turned to him and said "there's no reason to be rude? This isn't cool. You don't treat people like this" the girl chimed in with "we weren't being rude" I said "yes he was, just because the gelato wasn't right doesn't give you a right to treat people like this?" To which she laughed. I said "oh so now you're laughing at me? Very nice" and left. When I opened the door to leave she actually laughed SO loud my boyfriend saw and heard her laughing at me from outside the store. He asked what was wrong I told him what just happened he went back in and asked why they were being so rude and the girl literally responded with "it's America, it's a free country" so yeah I'm not coming back here for a while if ever. Rudest experience of my...
Read moreI'd love to give this place a higher review, but I'm not sure that it deserves one. I visited this place for the first time last night for some gelato. As someone who enjoys a good gelato and looking at the reviews, I was ready for a scoop or two following a dinner a couple of blocks away.
A few things upon entry, this establishment is cash only. This isn't a star breaker for me, but just something to note. The place is really busy inside and there are a ton of flavors - quite overwhelming. Upon looking in the frozen display cases, there are just too many flavors... and they didn't look fresh at all. Many of the buckets looked like they were just re-frozen multiple times, mixed with other flavors of nearby buckets, and just not very attractive overall.
The service was extremely slow. I value that the owner of the establishment was doing the scooping, but the other working behind the counter was not allowed to do the actual scooping, just serve samples. While he may have been serving great attention to detail on how the scoops were laid out into the small cup, he wasn't even scooping the gelato correctly (knit-pick for sure... but hey, the service was so slow that this came to mind). The long wait here is due to ineffective service at the counter - that's about it.
I ordered and received 2 scoops - banana walnut and mint chip. While it was okay, it was just okay. It didn't taste fresh, the flavor wasn't super strong, and it tasted just how it looked, refrozen.
If you are looking for a gelato place, this spot is not the one for you. Maybe switch up the gelato need and go for ice cream across the street that at least looks a...
Read moreI had a very upsetting experience at this store. I purchased a small size ice cream and paid with my credit card. As my friend was checking out right behind me, the cashier suddenly pointed at me and accused me of not paying, asking whether I was paying with my friend. I was stunned. I immediately opened my credit card app and showed her the transaction record.
Instead of acknowledging the evidence, she continued to question me and asked if I had a receipt. I told her I clearly remembered seeing the receipt screen and selecting “no receipt.” Her response? “If you say you paid, then you paid. It’s okay.” But it wasn’t okay — I felt wrongfully accused in front of a store full of people. I told her she owed me an apology, since I had already shown proof. She just repeated, “If you say you paid, then you paid.”
Her tone and attitude were dismissive, as if she was “letting it slide,” rather than acknowledging her mistake. I felt embarrassed, uncomfortable, and deeply disrespected.
For context, we are three Asian women. I can’t help but wonder if she would have acted the same way if we were three white men. Her behavior raises serious concerns about implicit bias, if not outright racism.
This experience completely ruined what should have been a simple,...
