Full disclosure: I went with my uncle, who's installing a new jukebox.
This was the first time I ever set foot in Molly Magees. I've driven by many times but never went in (I'm just not the "bar" type primarily because I can't STAND beer (except for use in a recipe or on my hair!) and don't do straight hard liquor (yuck!)).
But I have to admit I was impressed. At the time of my visit (around 10:30 a.m.), the place was closed (thanks in part to COVID), but the owner, Liam Bafle, was hoping to open in time for St. Patrick's Day. So I didn't see it as most would. I saw it in the full light of day...and, wow, was I impressed. Seriously, it's a GORGEOUS pub. The atmospheric décor is perfect, and all that FABULOUS wood paneling and at the bar! Perfect. Oh, and the copper lincrusta on the upper portions of the walls--wonderful! It really is a lovely establishment (which may not be the sort of compliment one wants to hear about a BAR, but, well, the interior decorator in me couldn't help but be impressed).
As to the sorts of things offered, well, there are plenty of tables for chatting with friends or coworkers at the end of a long day. There's a pool table for those who enjoy the "gentlemanly" sport. There's a dance floor (it lights up!) for dancing--and a DJ (you'd need to check the days/hours for his schedule). There's outdoor dining (don't know if there's food offered here, but I would assume at least appetizers) plus three of the biggest TV screens (also outside), plus (my uncle told me this--I didn't actually see it) an outdoor bar! And, of course, a new jukebox courtesy Steve Apker at Outer Limits Amusement Services (shameless familial plug, I know 😉).
If you're looking for a way to unwind after work or maybe a get-to-know-you first date or whatever the occasion, try Molly Magees. It seems to me as if it would be a great place let off some end-of-the-workday/week steam or just to sample the various brews on tap (not that that would be MY preference, of course). Oh, and I should say that I mentioned I've driven by numerous times--well, each time, the place has been PACKED and full of lively banter (which, yes, you can hear if you drive with the windows down), which seems to be a great advertisement to the place's overall atmosphere. It's a popular destination.
Side note: This would absolutely be a place I'd love to use in one of my novels (yes, I'm also an authoress (writing as A.J.)--my first novel's just come out (yes, I know: shameless personal plug!)). I can already see it used in a date scene or maybe a murder mystery or... I don't often feel inspired to create a scene in most places I visit, but this place really did have such wonderful atmosphere. I'd just have to get the owner's permission. (Oh, and speaking of owners... If you love accents, you're in for a treat. Mr. Bafle has a LOVELY Irish brogue. You just can't help expecting to see one of the "wee folk" smoking a pipe and downing a Guinness at the bar!...
Read moreThis is my favorite place in Mountain View to grab a drink. Reasons: Name: I’m Irish and love Irish pubs.
Price: prices are reasonable for beer and spirits compared to other local places.
Appearance: the interior has low lighting, nice large business sign, architecturally laid out in a way that makes sense. Two restrooms, pool table. Basic pub stuff, but well maintained.
Accessibility/location: wheelchair accessible, downtown Mountain View, so close to everything really.
Toilets: not sure about the women’s room, but mens has a single stall for dropping that unexpected steamin demon. Trough style urinal so you can make friends.
Beer/spirit selection: full bar with all your typical spirit selections. I drink Guinness, and it taste great here, they also know how to pour a proper Guinness. They mix up their taps with some local craft beer as well as having your run of the mill brewski selection if you are on a budget.
Atmosphere: great, good energy, good vibes, good diversity. I never see crazy drunks or violent people. Granted, I’m not there in the late evening.
Website: could use improvement. Not sure if it’s maintained or not.
Activities: to my previous point about their website, I’m not sure what activities they have. Last update I see on Facebook is from May.
Service: I often find that the bar tenders have good energy, are helpful, and get to people in a...
Read moreI came here on a Friday night with a friend, the music was great, they played current top 40’s and some HIP HOP, they also throw some 90’s hits. Drinks could be pricey, so I would recommend to get two or three shots before getting here. The only thing I was disgusted about was the crowd, I think 70 percent (generous calculation) of the girls and guys don’t wear deodorant, I am sure you have an idea which race and culture I am referring to. My friend and I could barely breathe on the dance floor, it was so sad to see stinky beautiful people, on top of that they were farting a lot. Next time I will go with a Febreze and start spraying at people armpits, if that could only...
