Mountain Village, just up mountain from Telluride, is an amazing ski village! The gondola operates 24/7 except during May when maintenance is performed. Sadly, it is usually during May that the entire western slope of Colorado is continually drenched in mountain runoff, which results in dozens of impromptu waterfalls all over this area! The easiest road trip is the "million dollar highway." This trip can be completed in only a few hours (weather permitting). Mountain village is always our first stop on the gondola and then we take the second gondola down to Telluride.
Mountain village is gorgeous! The location has multiple shops and places to get a bit to eat. We especially love it when they have live music in the center square. However, be prepared for prices to be on the higher end for food and apparel.
The area is very dog friendly - they even have dog specific gondolas. And depending on the season depends on your outside activities: snow season for skiing and snow boarding and off season for mountain biking. And yes, they do have a bunny hill for kids and newbies.
