‼️Puffin is a disgrace to the cannabis community, and a digital surveillance trap dressed up as a dispensary.

This place doesn’t care about wellness, healing, or freedom. It cares about harvesting your data, inflating its reputation with coerced reviews, and flexing authoritarian control through off-duty cops who treat educated customers like threats.

Let me be brutally clear: You are NOT required by NJ law to let them scan your ID. Visual age verification is 100% legal and sufficient. But Puffin? Puffin demands to scan your license……like you’re applying for a loan or entering a federal facility.

When I calmly asked for a visual check (as I’ve done at other shops like Jesters Joint), the tone instantly shifted. Their rent-a-cop at the door…clearly a retired or off-duty police officer….got confrontational for no reason, puffing his chest and acting like I just exposed a dirty secret.

Which I did.

Because the dirty secret is this: Puffin is building a quiet list. A list of you, your purchases, your behavior—and they’re doing it under the cozy cover of “store policy.” That data? It doesn’t just sit there. It can be sold, leaked, subpoenaed, or used against you down the line, especially if federal laws ever swing back.

But that’s not even the most shameless part.

After kicking me out for knowing my rights, they had the nerve to tell me…..on a previous visit…..that if I left a 5-star review at the counter, they’d give me a discount. Then they stood there and WATCHED ME write it before applying the savings.

That’s fake reputation laundering, and it’s gross.

This isn’t a business. It’s a façade, run by people who want your money, your data, and your compliance. If you ask questions, you’re punished. If you follow orders, you’re rewarded. Sound familiar?

If you care about the actual spirit of legalization, about undoing the damage of decades of cannabis prohibition…Puffin is the exact kind of place that should NOT exist. They didn’t build something new. They rebranded the old system with neon signs and a scanner.

The space is fancy, well-decorated, and welcoming—even for someone like me who’s never bought legal cannabis before. I walked in feeling intimidated, but the staff helped ease my anxiety with solid product recommendations tailored to focus and calm. Unfortunately, one product—Pomegranate Pearls from Grön—didn’t sit well with my wife. She experienced a sudden wave of hot and cold flashes and ended up getting sick after we got home. We tried calling the store, but couldn’t get through. Later, we were told returns must be made within 7 days, which is tough when you’re coming from Long Island. I had to reach out to the company directly for support. Despite that hiccup, I’m still giving Puffin 4 stars. The customer service was great, the location is convenient, and the other products were solid. If you’re new to cannabis or just want a chill, well-run spot near Rutgers, Puffin is worth checking out. Just be mindful of how your body reacts and ask questions before buying edibles. Puffin will easily become a staple in this town, and for good reason. Once you walk past your warm greeting, you enter into an atmosphere that's both modern and comfy at the same time. When I say the people working there are nice, I truly mean they are just good people you're dealing with, and it's definitely felt. These people just have an amazing energy about them, I was genuinely shocked, ngl. All questions are clearly welcome, all walks of life are clearly welcome—It's truly just a fun experience just walking in and looking around. No one pressures you (which is always nice).
