Sutton Galleries — Attraction in New Orleans

We love visiting New Orleans. We try to come once a year and now with Covid inching behind us we are happy to have come for a few days this past week. We stopped in the gallery drawn in by the trees by Isabelle Dupuy. We made our way to the second floor mesmerized by the trees of Mario Jung. We inquired the price of a smaller one. Meanwhile, I googled information on the artist. My 14yr old and I were making our way out when I mentioned I found the artist on line. The older gentleman working let me know that he could work with me on the price but it probably would not be enough. It took me walking down the street and my son telling me "Mom, I can't believe he was implying we couldn't afford the painting, we just bought 5 pieces at the Rinard gallery." We buy gifts and own several originals from a couple of artists there. Had my other half, who walked out ahead of us, had heard the comment he would have been quick witted and put the gentleman in his place. The gallery is beautiful, but unfortunately the staff is so incredibly rude that they completely ruined the experience. We were interested in a piece and asked for the artist’s last name. The old man sitting at the desk refused to tell us the name and went on a rant about how if we weren't going to buy the piece he wouldn’t waste his time talking to us. Apparently we were the first in a long line of people he has to “deal with” everyday. This rant went on for minutes before we cut him off and left. I have never been to a gallery with owners/staff so rude and snobby that I had to leave. Stay far away from this place and its...

The art was delightful and I was in the market for some new pieces but the staff was rude. I asked questions about pricing and the guy wouldn’t even get out of his chair to look at the piece I was referring to even though it was on a wall he couldn’t see. Just kept lounging back in his chair and chatting with another guy, throwing numbers out of the side of his mouth. Could have had a repeat customer with a doctor’s income if you hadn’t been...
