I travel for work and can confidently say this is the most disgusting crunch I have ever set foot in the entire country. Here’s an honest breakdown for those considering joining, because employees will incentivize members to leave reviews with name drops to boost numbers. The biggest thing I’ll mention is that the machines are UNSAFE. Every time I have come in, I have found a machine to be broken entirely with no out of order sign. Be aware and triple check before you start a lift because there is a very serious chance of injury. Atmosphere: The first thing you’ll notice when you enter is the smell. I have volunteered at animal shelters for well over a decade and am practically nose blind with an iron stomach. The smell is so rank that at times I had to pause mid workout to stop from gagging. It smells as if you walked into a middle school boys locker room that hasn’t been washed in years combined with something that died in the vents. The second thing you’ll pick up is how dirty the gym is. You’ll see empty water bottles and energy drink cans abandoned on the floor, wipes everywhere on the ground, and machines covered in dirt. Garbage cans at any given time are overflowing with garbage on the floors around it and no wipes in dispensers to clean after a workout. Be sure to watch your step because you’ll have to dodge abandoned dumbbells left and right. You’ll have a blast playing scavenger hunt while you try to find two of the same weights. The options for machines are abysmal compared to all the other crunches. You’ll find missing staples like smith machines, and extremely limited benches. It’s a true rarity to see someone return their weights or wipe down a machine. The worst offenders are always the Crunch Personal Trainers. People: Plan to have to adjust your workout. The gym is crowded with very limited machines and your fellow members will be a treat. The person I went with (a man) had the pleasant experience of men laughing at him, in his face, over the weight he was using. I had a more eventful leg day as a woman. I saw members recording me without my consent, men staring so intently I could feel them undressing me with their eyes (including gross staring from the Crunch trainers here) and the best, a man with a hand on his crotch while watching me do hip abductions. The personal trainers behavior can be described as the type of behavior you’d expect from someone who’s only marketable skill as an adult is picking up heavy things, and treat others as if they are above them because they can move said heavy things. You’ll have the fortune of shaking your workouts up because you’ll find the Crunch trainers using two, usually more, pieces of equipment at once (which isn’t ideal for a gym that is missing a lot of typical machines in the first place). If you assume because there’s abandoned weights or a corner to work out in a packed gym full of unracked weights that you can use it, you’re in trouble. The Crunch trainers will make sure to not only raise their voice, but condescend in a way that you would speak to a toddler. Truly a deplorable way for employees to speak to paying gym goers that I have yet to experience at any other location across the country.

My wife and I have been visiting this location 4-5 times a week for close to 1.5 years now, so let me start off by saying this is our sanctuary. After work there is no place we are more excited to go than this gym. Overall the amenities, classes, stand up tanning bed, layout, locker room setup, overall cleanliness, supplement and drink selection, equipment upkeep, and hydro-bed are worth 5 stars alone. There aren't enough good words to talk about how welcoming, friendly, and professional the staff are here and in new york that is a rare combination to find. So to management, thank you for making this such an enjoyable place to workout. That being said there are two major drawbacks to this gym. #1 Management does not enforce any sort of protocol in regard to reserving equipment or maintain any policies to keep the instagram and social media crowd out. While I understand using your phone for music, workout apps, etc. be prepared to wait for equipment for up to 10-15 minutes at a time while inconsiderate gym goers have others take pictures or videos of them, take photos of themselves, use actual tripods to take vlogs of themselves working out (see photo), sit there browsing for up to 20 minutes at a time on their cellphone, and my personal favorite use a towel or other personal item to reserve 3-4 pieces at once so they can complete a circuit during rush hour. Management - I can not stress enough how much this negative culture impacts the overall impression of your gym and services offered. #2 There is a big martial arts and boxing crowd here. While they seem to be some of the most respectful gym goers i've encountered to date and overall are really easy to share a gym with they do cause the medicine balls to take some abuse while they practice their various punches and slam moves and this renders them pretty useless for wall throws unless you enjoy the taste of sand falling in your mouth between tosses. NOTE: there is only water available on the 2nd floor or in the basement by the mens locker rooms (you almost have to go inside their restroom to access it). This isn't a huge drawback, but it's definitely a pretty big inconvenience when you have to constantly go back and forth between floors on a tight stairwell. On the upside they also have a bathroom on the second floor beside the water fountain which is a great time saver.

I’m posting this review mostly bc I read the review from A Flores just now that presents this branch of Crunch as a 1-star experience. I can’t speak to her experience here but I’ve been coming for some weeks and I think that’s too harsh and blanket a criticism. However, as a Crunch member who trains at clubs all over, I see exactly what she’s complaining about. This location is uniquely dirty and broken down in specific areas. In the men’s locker room, for example, half the lockers don’t close and the vent in the ceiling is falling apart. But these issues could be fixed by handing one guy and drill and giving him 5 hours to work. I really recommend somebody do this. It’s true that the weight machines show signs of rust and there are little issues with a bunch of machines, which A Flores pointed out. But everything basically works fine. It’s well laid out. The staff and people here are friendly and just doing their thing. To the management: just take a day or two fixing up little stuff mostly in the locker rooms and everyone will be happier.

I want to start by making it clear that this review is based solely on my personal experience with management—specifically the manager overseeing personal training.

In March, I signed up for three months of personal training and paid the full amount upfront. I was told that if I did not wish to continue after the three months, I needed to notify management within a certain time frame. I did exactly that in May by texting the manager directly. I never received a response.

Shortly after, I ran into him in person while passing the gym and reiterated that I wanted to cancel. That was the first time I was told I needed to sign a form to finalize the cancellation. He told me to do it the next time I was at the gym. I followed up at my next session, ready to sign whatever was needed. However, I was told I was “a little early” and not to worry—he would take care of it.

Unfortunately, it was never taken care of. Once the three-month period ended, I started getting billed $99.28 weekly. I didn’t realize this right away until I saw the charges pending in my account. I contacted the manager again and was told I now needed to come in and sign something, but that he would issue a refund for the unauthorized charges.

I explained I was going on vacation and wouldn’t be available until I returned. Despite that, I was billed again while I was away. When I landed, I called him and said I’d come in that day to sign whatever was needed. He told me, “No, it’s okay—I got you,” and again promised to handle it and process the refund.

Yet again, that didn’t happen. The following week, I was billed another $99.28. At this point, I was beyond frustrated. I went to the gym, signed the paperwork in person, and requested a full refund for all four unauthorized charges. He agreed to issue the refund.

When I received an email confirming the refund, I realized it was only for two of the four transactions.

Vincent, you have repeatedly misled me throughout this entire process, but what I find most disrespectful is how carelessly you’ve handled my money. You’ve made promises you didn’t keep, gave me verbal reassurances you failed to follow through on, and delayed resolution at every turn.

I will not spend another dime at this establishment. I currently have 18–20 unused personal training sessions, but I refuse to continue paying a monthly gym membership just to use them. I’ve made every effort to resolve this issue directly, but if I don’t receive a full refund for either the remaining two unauthorized transactions or the unused training sessions, I will pursue this matter through small claims court.

Please consider this your final opportunity to...

Here is my Outlook on this gym 1038 Flatbush Ave. if you plan on joining do not go there they’re very unprofessional some of the workers attitude very rude very disrespectful on how they handle the situation. Where is that? I want to cancel my membership. I was told to put my account on freeze so I could always come back And just start over if I wanted to that was Saturday, October 4 woke up Monday morning, which is October six to$62 has been taken out of my account when I call to speak to his manager. The young lady on the phone said she’s not available then she said that the $62 will be put back into your account October 7. I woke up to 24 dollars be taken out my account when I called to speak to a manager, I was on the phone by one of the workers that she’s not here how can I help you so I would like to speak to supervisor then he was rude by telling me that he would rather not have me call back so he will help me to get the problem so so you know I’m going down there when I went down there the same person he was very rude. Very unprofessional told me that he don’t want to talk to me or see me back there like he told me on the phone so he’s gonna make sure that I get my money back in my account First of all he was very rude and very unprofessional. I’m not gonna leave no name but I’ve never been in a place that looks so dirty. Nothing is clean there if this is how the owner allow people to handle business and conduct a franchise it is very unprofessional and I recommend no one to go to that gym by that location. The manager told me that she couldn’t reimburse me my two dollars I was taking on my account after I was told that if you put your account freeze, there will be no money taken out so it was on their fault but yet 62 dollars was still taken out of my account and then I couldn’t get my money back because it was an annual fee that’s why I put my account on freeze so that won’t happen. It still happen and I still didn’t get my money back. Then I had to deal with the manager being rude and disrespectful and also the Worker being rude and disrespectful. I could put her name on blast, but I’m not gonna do that but anyone that choose to go to that location 10 38 Flatbush Ave. you should pick a different location. They have no respect. They’re very unprofessional very disrespectful, including the managers every single one of them that work in that facility I recommend no one to go to that to that gym. I was trying to reach out to corporal so I could put in a complaint about it can’t find the number so if anyone read this review and you know how to reach corporal I would love a feedback. I love to get the number Very...
