Another Gagosian outpost in New York City, which offered a rare opportunity to see Cady Noland's work in the city. While not as impressive as her comprehensive retrospective at Frankfurt's Museum für Moderne Kunst a few years back, the core themes of American mass culture mixed with open or latent violence were all still there. I also loved the new exhibition on Setsuko (born 1942), Kingdom of Cats. While some similarities of her art to the art of her late husband Balthus are apparent, Setsuko definitely has her own style with influences ranging from frescos from Pompeii to Renaissance frescos to Giuseppe Arcimboldo.

With little time to spare while in the city, I was hoping to catch Louise Bonnet's ongoing show up-close. I understand that the pandemic has obviously caused a lot of changes in life, but it was still disappointing to be locked out from entering the building to see each piece with detail. I was not aware that setting up an appointment by calling ahead of time was necessary to be provided permission of entry, especially when other galleries are open to the public under extreme caution.

While it is welcomed that the show is technically available for viewing 24 hours a day, observing from the other side of a glass view port at a distance simply doesn't do the experience justice. Here's to hoping that Gagosian may again show Bonnet's works in the near future at one of their...
