I honestly cannot imagine a better medical experience than my inguinal hernia surgery with Dr. Dawson. At 44, I found myself with bilateral hernias and my top priority was to find the absolute best general surgeon in NYC. No matter where I searched or what top doctor I asked, one name always floated to the very top of the list. After an extremely successful procedure, now I know why.

Dr. Dawson uses the most cutting edge robotic surgical technique and does so with skill and experience that only thousands of past surgeries can provide. His talent in employing this minimally-invasive and extremely precise approach had me back at the gym the same week of the surgery and back in full swing in far less than a month.

However, in addition to being perhaps the best general surgeon in New York, Dr. Dawson is such a kind, caring, patient and compassionate person that it's hard to even call this "good bedside manner". Being his patient feels much more like having a great friend by your side. Dr. Dawson and his excellent team walked me through what to expect before, during and after the procedure, met with me in the Lennox Hill surgical center multiple times and even texted with me constantly in the weeks that followed (in addition to post-op visits of course) to make sure I was comfortable during every stage of my very fast recovery. I also want to add that his staff were exceptional: they consistently followed up, were kind, caring, and attentive to my needs. To say that this is above and beyond my experience with almost any other doctor is an understatement.

Dr. Dawson and his staff provided consistently professional and specific care to me. They considered my individual case and circumstances in a detailed and sensitive manner that allowed me to feel confident in their care and at ease in the surgery to be done. In our initial consultation, Dr. Dawson gave me a detailed explanation of my diagnosis and outlined the recommended procedure clearly. His staff worked with me to ensure that the insurance provider was well informed in a timely manner and that the communication between the operating parties was clear. Prior to my surgery the office was in contact with me, as was Dr. Dawson and the surgical facility (Northwell Health - Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital). The doctor was always available to answer any questions. (As well, Northwell MEETH was responsive to any questions I had.) My surgery started precisely on-time: all of the parties were present and prepared. It went off seamlessly and exactly as I had been briefed. I felt cared for and respected by the surgical and nursing and anesthesiology staff at all times. This was outpatient surgery. The doctor called me that evening, as he did on the following days to check on my status. (Additionally, a staff nurse at MEETH called twice to check on me). My recovery was somewhat easier than I anticipated: I experienced little pain, just some expected discomfort. (This was a triple hernia repair.) I was mobile the next day. I have been very pleased with my patient experience with Dr. Dawson. I was referred to him by my family physician, and after doing some online research, I found that his credentials and expertise (laparoscopic surgery, robotics) were what I needed for my procedure. I was impressed from the start with his team - his is not a cramped, high-volume medical practice but a very personal one where from the top down, everyone was focused on addressing my concerns and schedule. Dr. Dawson spent a good amount of time with me explaining the surgical options and answering my questions in an unhurried way. He listened actively which inspired a lot of confidence that I had found the right surgeon. A winter storm pushed the schedule back with Covid-19 testing and pre-clearance procedures but his team actively helped to manage the situation, problem-solved and got the timeline back on track. I had the procedure done on an outpatient basis at MEETH which ran smoothly supported by attentive staff. The pre-op nurse whispered to me as I was walking towards the operating room "Dr. Dawson is excellent - you're in great hands" which helped to ease some last minute jitters.
