Best NYC Fall Foliage + spooky + sushi plan!

What a wonderful place to just relax, unwind and.enjoy some incredible nature and scenery. There are a lot of connecting trails that are well paved as well as some hidden trails (especially when the leaves fall) that are really fun and challenging. We got to see various beautiful creatures, including the bald eagle, which was phenomenal! Additional note: After reviewing other reviews, I'd like to say that we did not encounter any homeless persons during our time there, although there was evidence of it having occurred in the past. I agree that it wasn't clear that the 'cave' was simply a bunch of rocks stacked on top of each other. Regardless, we were able to observe them and go on some hidden trails. I'll stand by my 5 stars as I did not find it a waste of my time and quite enjoyed the experience.

Imagine- Native Americans were able to find their way home without placards and paved trails and tourist brochures! This site is a few steps uphill off the main path but not hard to find. Just walk as close as you can on the Google Maps trail, go a bit south and you'll see an uphill wooded trail along a stretch of the paved path lined with drainage stones.

Back in the day before it was legal, me and my friends used to smoke a lot of weed here. So peaceful. We used to be respectful of others and we would walk into the trails to smoke, instead of blowing smoke in peoples faces on the sidewalks or other populated areas of the park. I’ve met new people and made friends by these caves. I also used to bring food to this homeless dude that lived under the rocks. Cool guy, wonder where he’s...

These are not caves in traditional meaning. I believe the proper name would be a rock shelters.

Anyway it's worth taking a look. The place feels isolated from the city, you can easily imagine Indians living there. Especially because a homeless person occupies one of the caves.

Also I would add that this park needs better navigation, security and something like a stand with historical information...
