DO NOT EAT AT CAPITOL DINER — YOU’LL REGRET IT.
Let me save you the disappointment and the money: Capitol Diner is a complete ripoff. I’ve had some bad dining experiences, but this one takes the cake.
First off, they had the nerve to charge me over $7 for a small glass of acidic lemon juice — and no, it wasn’t fresh-pressed or served in a crystal goblet. It tasted like it came straight from a bottle at a gas station. Then, a can of soda? $2.85. You read that right. Not even a glass bottle or a refill — a basic, cheap can. Insulting.
But it gets worse. The food quality is HORRIBLE — dry, bland, and clearly cooked without an ounce of care. You’re paying premium prices for diner food that wouldn’t pass at a high school cafeteria.
The place is dense, dark, and depressing — dim lights, crammed seating, and a vibe that screams "we gave up years ago." Yet somehow, they’re strutting around like they’re a trendy spot in SoHo or the East Side. News flash: you can’t charge NYC luxury prices if your food and ambiance are bottom-tier.
Spare yourself the frustration. There are a dozen better places within walking distance where you’ll spend less and eat better. Capitol Diner is a joke — and the punchline is your receipt.
the waiter didn’t even bother to write our order down. Tried to "remember it," messed it up, and then had the nerve to argue with us and gaslight like we were the problem. Completely unprofessional.
Seriously — don’t waste your time, money, or appetite here. There are plenty of better spots nearby. Capitol Diner is a ripoff wrapped in bad service...
Read moreThis diner has changed its face and its owner recently. I never visited the old diner, but we decided to check out the brand new diner. The inside is very bright, clean, and cozy. They had some baked goods on the counter, such as muffins and bagels. We didn’t try them, but they looked pretty good.
I tried their Banana Smoothie. It was very thick and totally banana-y. Came in a plastic cup, which was kind of funny, no frills here. Tasty!
We were there for brunch, and their menu is quite large! It took me a few minutes to decide what to get. I went with Pancakes Decker - layered with Greek yogurt, blueberries, strawberries, & topped with honey.
Now, the actual Pancake Decker looked very different from what was shown on their menu… It didn’t come with honey either. The pancakes were fluffy, and the berries were ripe and sweet, which was great. Even though it didn’t live up to the photo, it was still a tasty dish.
My hubby went with Monte Cristo. It was a bit smaller than expected, but still a nice size. It was very tasty, nice flavor and seasoning on the meat. It didn’t look like much, but we enjoyed it. I would like to go back to try some other items on their menu, but not based on the photos off...
Read moreHands down my favorite diner and such a cool spot in Inwood. Their menu is HUGE, if you want it, you can probably get it here -- latin food, Italian food, and of course diner favorites and specialties. It's a small but cozy spot and so far Everytime I've been in there, there was at least a few tables available. Service and food are quick and prices are excellent compared to most of Manhattan, even upper Manhattan is getting out of control! But this place is such a vibe. I've had the pizza burger and loved it as a comfort food item. Their pancakes are divine. I love the Greek Belgian waffle which is fluffy and simply served with Greek yogurt and fruit. The buffalo chicken wrap came in a massive portion for about $15. My favorite treat is a cappuccino which they always serve with the perfect, smoothest foam on top. I highly recommend this spot, even if you're not a fan of diners, you'll likely find something...
