A gigantic (positive) surprise! The Rose Theater is an incredibly beautiful venue to enjoy live music, with great acoustics and an incredible view of the surrounding area of New York City a few floors above the ground level. The performance given by Wynton Marsalis and the other members of the orchestra was fantastic: these are some of the best jazz instrumentalists in the country and it shows in everything that they do. They also had a fair amount of education added to the program which I watched which enhanced the experience greatly, telling anecdotes and stories about the individual pieces that will entertain both those unfamiliar with jazz and people with a deeper background.
I will say that the performances here lack the wild improvisational feel of other jazz performances, so you should know that going in. Still, the quality of the performances is worth the very reasonable price of admission alone, plus you get to enjoy it in one of the best performing spaces in the city.
Highly recommended (if you couldn't tell that already)! If you live in the city, swing by to see if they have last minute tickets available -- we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of our seats...
Read moreI was ecstatic to finally get tickets to the Unity Jazz Festival 2024. The Jazz at Lincoln Center is truly a unique concert venue and space! The Jazz festival had several notable musicians performing live in The Appel Room, Ertegun Atrium and Dizzy’s Club.
The lineup of artists performing over the two days was exceptional. I am a major fan of Chief Adjuah, and after having seen him perform in several different venues across the USA - the performance at The Appel Room certainly now holds the top spot!!!
The acoustics are amazing, along with the intimacy of the venue. No matter where you are seated in the ‘Room’ the visibility is amazing and the dramatic floor to ceiling glass wall overlooking a New York skyline adds that extra...
Read moreIf you love jazz, this is the place to see the greats -- both young and old. But the theater itself is worthy of praise. It is beautiful and modern with seating that will appeal to many different preferences. There is, of course, traditional orchestra seating. In addition, there are boxes on several levels and some very high balcony seats. Most interesting are the boxes that ring the stage so that the audience is very close to the performers, although some are up high and behind the musicians. The sound is excellent in every level and position. The theater is not ornate but posh with its modern clean lines. The staff is always helpful and pleasant. I love going here and have not been disappointed in any...
