Content warning for yapping (Continuous updates) I am now a third year at this school, and so far, I'd honestly give it 2.5 stars. As with all schools, some staff are nice and some are not. Security tends to be friendly. However, the teachers have such a wide spectrum of horrible and amazing. The math and physics department seem to definitely have the short end of the stick. One of my math classes has an unavoidable (advanced math) professor who honestly bullied me throughout the entire semester (not to mention she's also the department chair). The chair (and unavoidable teacher) of the physics department is also not good. He is narcissistic and is very non-tradition. I won't say he isn't smart, but he is not a skilled teacher -- which is a very common theme at this school. Another slight issue is that the school has a vast majority of some majors (especially computer science) and a huge lack of others. I am a physics major, and the program has maybe 15 students (if you include majors as well as minors). However, more people are enrolling in my department so this may not be a consistent problem. But an ongoing problem is course cancellations due to lack of enrollment. Still not enough students. However, having a small department isn't particularly bad. The school, in general, has classes of up to 40 people. 40 is not a very large number compared to the 100 some other universities face. But for me, 40 is still a lot — so having small classes is a huge bonus for me. The classes that the entire school doesn't need have less than 15 students, with some of my classes having only 3 students. Even with education aside, the last issue with this school is the accessibility. While there are elevators in each building, they absolutely suck. The elevators work sometimes, and other times, you have to climb up a plethora of stairs (where in one building our school only has access from floor 6 which means you will be climbing a minimum of 6 floors). So if anyone reading this can not be prepared to randomly take the stairs, consider a different institution. Lastly, the total cost is always rising. The dorms are getting more expensive, and the cost of tuition is also getting more expensive. So honestly if you are considering coming here, unless this is your absolute dream uni, save your money for a cheaper place that probably has the same quality of professors -- if not better. That is it for my review as a 3rd year. Thanks for reading my...
Read moreFirst I would like to say dealing with their administration is the worst they are the most rude and disrespectful and not to include inpatient people I've come across. I transferred into this school hoping for a good match but it has been nothing but pure hell. From the Professors to the administrative personal it has been one thing after the next if it isn't them doing their job properly resulting in negative consequences on my part as in effecting my GPA with their mistakes. Inputting grades wrong in their system, and when reported to their higher ups on there repeatedly incompetence on doing their job nothing is done. This is the worst experience I have ever encountered in attending a school. The professor do not care about their students and some of them don't even speak proper english and when asked to have a better explanation in their class they get iretated as if you're not as well trying to learn and complete their class with a good grade. There is a lot of favoritism so if you do decide to go to this school learn to suck up to your teachers if you would like a good grade. There a whole lot more I can say but for what not like this review would even make a difference. Hopefully it reaches out to one student out there wondering what its like in...
Read moreWaste of time for Comp Sci majors. I am the student who gave NYIT the idea of starting a start up program. It all started with attending the NCIIA Open conference. I learned more in the 3 days I was at the conference than I did the 2 years I spent at NYIT.
Along with the proposal for the start up program, I mentioned the horrible experience with faculty members. I was hoping some kind of response from them but got nothing. Not a thank you or an apology. It is highly possible that they got bitter for mentioning that I would never donate to the school due to their horrible faculty members.
I paid money and took out loans to listen to a professor talk about his abduction and conspiracy about the KGB and a well known defense contractor company wanting to kill him. As his memory came back or gotten crazier, his stories became the main "class lecture". They even hire professors who can't barely speak English and all the assignments are history reports on various programming languages.
During my time there, I had only two professor who taught something that I would consider...
