Room: The room was clean when I arrived, but extremely, morbidly hot. The thermostat in my room was set to 72, but (I assume) due to weather conditions outside, which were 90+, my room was an excess of 76-77 degrees when I got there. Thankfully I bumped the thermostat down and got it to a reasonable temperature that I could feel comfortable sleeping in. Also, the room’s refrigerator was fully stocked with drinks, which were all hot because it seemed that the rooms mini fridge was not plugged in, very disappointing given how professional and nice everything looked while I was there. Stayed on the 5th floor and never once saw an ice machine, this could have been easily fixed had I really needed ice, by just asking where the ice machine was, but I wasn’t too worried about it. The bed was comfortable and clean, the bathroom was magnificent and luxurious! By far my favorite part of the room.
Service: The customer service at 6 Columbus was nice, I commend everyone I had interactions with, as they were polite and dutiful at their jobs and handling any concerns or issues I had. However, there were a few things that rubbed me the wrong way. Firstly, I had called a few hours in advance to my check in to see if it was possible, on such short notice, to request an early check-in. While they said that it was a possibility, if they could get the room clean before the actual check-in time, it never happened, and this wouldn’t be an issue if I had not felt they were being truthful. Long story short, if you want an early check-in/late check-out, or even a room upgrade, keep some cash between your CC and ID when you check in. Secondly, I have 4 herniated discs in my lumbar, so using the elevator was essential, but after a very long day of business events and tourism, I was in a significant amount of pain, so I didn’t want to get back out. I ordered UberEats, and requested that the delivery person come up to my door and drop my food off. I had to go downstairs in pain to get my food because the front desk people wouldn’t let the delivery driver up.
Valet: I was told that Valet would be $70 per 24hrs, totally fine, until you learn that you can’t willingly take your vehicle in and out of valet during said 24hr period without adding an additional $70 charge for each time the vehicle leaves/re-enters the valet lot, also, if you forget anything in your car, you have to walk half a block to get to the garage, then have an attendant unlock it for you just to get something.
Location: 10/10 great location. There are multiple small shops right next to the hotel for if you want some drinks and snacks that don’t require you to take out a second mortgage on your house. Central Park is a 5min walk, plenty of banks around for money necessities, and the street isn’t too busy.
Conclusion: All in all, I don’t believe I will be staying here again. While everyone I spoke with was cordial and professional, I don’t believe that the price, out the door ($405/ 1 night, w/ valet), is worth it. I do believe you are primarily paying for a prime location stay, that just so happens to be fancied up a bit on the inside. The rooms are nice, but the walls are thin, very dimly lit throughout the entirety of the building. There is seemingly no AC unless you are in your room. Both room service and hotel provided snacks/drinks are astronomical! (Ex: small bottle of Voss water that wasn’t even cold was $9/bottle). And the rules and fees regarding the valet are redundant and scammy in my opinion. Save your money and go somewhere that is going to be...
Read moreThe location is terrific. It’s near shopping, eateries, etc. Inside the rooms, the toiletries are very nice (C.O. Bigelow’s lime & coconut body lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash). The vertical blue tile in the BA is very attractive. Nice to have the microwave if you’re here for an extended stay. Staff I engaged with were pleasant and welcoming.
The rooms are small, even for NYC. I had a King Superior room, so I can’t imagine what a standard or queen room is like since the King is so very cramped. More importantly, the room was noisy. You will hear your neighbor flush their toilet and take showers - and it’s loud. And you have to crank up the volume on the TV if you want to hear it over the AC (which worked intermittently).
Business travelers beware: Insufficient outlets and oddly placed. And almost all in my room were loose (plugs fall out). Wi-Fi was a bit kludgy: I was kicked out repeatedly throughout the day. It was easy enough to get back in, but getting kicked out mid-day was very inconvenient during a day of b2b work calls via an online prlatform. Your tiny desk shares space with the microwave, so there’s almost no workspace (barely enough for a laptop, but that’s it). I had a short stool instead of a desk chair.
Even the TV had issues - none of the functions on the remote worked such as captions, info, or guide. I visited the restaurant in the lobby (but apparently isn’t affiliated with the hotel because I was told I could not charge meals to my room). I did not avail myself of the rooftop lounge, but was told by the proprietor of the “lobby restaurant” that it was tiny so reservations were recommended. Lastly, as others have reported, I was charged for minibar items I did not consume. Check your post-checkout charges carefully!
It wasn’t awful, but I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. I’m not willing to pay $1,500 a night for the Mandarin, but I would find another hotel the next time I want to stay...
Read moreDear all, ||||Every negative review written about 6 Columbus park hotel is spot on - accurate. The hotel website talks about a midtown luxury hotel showing nice looking rooms, the actual hotel & rooms are small, dim lit & shabby & face a dirty back alley & back of other buildings,||||The rooms are definitely not worth the 400 dollars per night charged, the furniture is old, wardrobe door was broken. The bathrooms towels are worn out & there is a big crack on the bathroom / shower floor. ||||Worse than the overpriced rooms which don’t live up to the quality promised, the hotel runs a credit card scam where they use your credit card information to keep making multiple random charges on your card, calling it “pre-authorisation” for the week ahead. They have blocked an additional 4500 dollars on my credit card over & above my room bill & kept pretending they don’t know anything about this extra amount. After repeat questioning one front desk man said it’s a blocked amount kept on my card account as pending charge & this huge additional amount blocked on my credit card will drop off. ||||IT HASNT - THIS IS MISUSE & ABUSE OF THE GUEST CREDIT CARD INFORMATION & A FRAUDULENT SCAM BY 6 COLUMBUS PARK HOTEL TO EXTRACT AS MUCH MONEY AS POSSIBLE FROM THE GUEST CREDIT CARD AND OVERCHARGE, POSING THESE OVER-BILLED CHARGES AS TEMPORARY BLOCKS THAT WILL DROP OFF.
