Nintendo NY (previously known as Nintendo World) is my go-to shop whenever I'm in Manhattan. They have a wide variety of video game consoles, video games, plushies, figurines, and other licensed products for sale here. Some of the collectibles are exclusive to Nintendo NY, so be sure to grab anything that catches your eye when you visit.
Due to COVID restrictions, only a certain amount of people can enter Nintendo NY at the same time. You'll have to wait in a line at the front door and will be let in only after other guests leave the store. There's a worker at the entrance who keeps a count of how many people are at the store, and they will let you know when it's okay for you to enter.
Nintendo NY changes up their promotional displays every few months, they usually coincide with game releases. I visited Nintendo NY shortly after Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl and Pokémon: Legends Arceus released, so I got to witness the delightful displays the employees set up throughout the store.
If you have a my.nintendo account you can check-in with a QR code at a kiosk inside of the store for some platinum coins. These coins can be redeemed for exclusive rewards on the my.nintendo website. I always make sure I check-in every time I stop by Nintendo NY.
The employees who work at Nintendo NY are always super friendly and are willing to answer any questions you may have. A lot of the employees are gamers themselves, so I always feel super welcome whenever I stop by here. I've been a customer since the late 2000s when this store was still known as Nintendo World.
I love the variety of goods and collectibles that they have here. If you consider yourself a Nintendo afficiando, you would love stopping by Nintendo NY. They have a demo area on the second floor where you can play some of the latest games with other Nintendo fans. They also have a bunch of display cases filled with retro consoles, amiibo, and other various merchandise. Don't forget to take a selfie with the giant Pikachu and Link statues that they have on the second floor too!
I highly recommend stopping by Nintendo NY if you're in Manhattan. If you yourself are a gamer or you're just looking for a unique gift for one of your friends, Nintendo NY is the...
Read moreI love it. I go several times a year as a pick-me-up. Their stock changes every four to five weeks, keeping every visit interesting. Because of this I wish the store posted what's in stock on their social media account as it'd be nice to know what they have in advance. Namely for the pokémon and kirby sections on the 2nd floor. Tbh I usually rely on Google Photo Reviews of the 2nd floor to figure out what is in stock but it's unreliable. So anyone leaving a photo review, please take pictures of the 2nd floor pokémon and kirby merchandise!
For what was new on my last visit this past week, they had the Whispy Woods Plush from the Kirby series and for sitting cutie plushies: Charizard, Bulbasaur, Butterfree, Eevee, Pikachu, Drowsee, and I think hitmontop. They also had a few new small squishy animal crossing plushes.
The store also changes their large displays depending on what game they're promoting. The Pikmin setup was my favorite. Absolutely adorable, and was fun finding all the pikmin hidden across the store. I definitely recommend visiting when there is an event going on. Usually, events are posted on their social media page.
As far as prices go, the prices are surprisingly reasonable for a nyc store of a well-known franchise. That said over the past year or so, there have been noticeable price increases. For example, the Sitting Cuties pokémon plush line sadly went from $10.99 to $16.99 a plush.
Other than that, I have always found the floor 2 staff very friendly and willing to help. Only positive staff experiences.
Lastly, just as a heads up, for anyone going NYC nintendo store. They have a policy for everyone to show their receipt and merchandise when leaving. When you buy something at the NYC Nintendo store the cashier generally specifically mentions to show your receipt to the security guard up front. The security guard needs to check thousands of people's receipts a day every day, so don't be too surprised if they ask for your receipt and rush through it. It's just a routine thing...
Read moreI work for an agency that assists Young adults with intellectual and development disabilities. We took a bus trip to Rockefeller Center from CT. One of my individuals is LOS which means he is not able to navigate the community on his own. His one desire was to visit the Nintendo store and we did. He chose a pokemon stuff figure and at check out, the cashier Jules was not very pleasant at all. He asked her if she played video games and she very nastily replied ..”why…?” Well because we are in a video game store and you work there and he was curious to know of you actually like to play!??? She was so rude and nasty about respond to this young man’s questions I had to intervene and tell him that in NY people don’t like to answer questions but in a store people are still supposed to exhibit good customer relations and this apparently is not a skill of hers You never know who you are interacting with in the community and kindness is necessary especially around the holiday and especially in an establish where people come to spend their money. People wouldn’t have a job if young men like him didn’t patronize these establishments I believe Nintendo store should work on sensitivity training because not all your customers have the ability to read cues and they shouldn’t have to when they are customer. As a sales rep you should Be coming to work prepared to answer questions, and array of them at that!!! It hurt his feelings because I He did not understand why she was being so rude and he was so innocent about his inquiries… It’s a shame that this woman will still have a job and she probably turn people day up side down daily with that nasty attitude. Jules should keep that negative...
