Our Lady of Victory Church — Attraction in New York

I came upon this Church when I was in the Financial District recently on business. It is a beautiful Church simply but effectively decorated and in the midst of a very busy day I was able to find calm and solitude within the Church. There were about a dozen people in the Church in late afternoon on a weekday; it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. They DID pipe in on very low volume some western Christian chants which added to the atmosphere. I am an Orthodox Christian; we do not have statuary in our Churches, so I found those few that were there a little jarring. BUT you soon realize that you are in a House of God and that you are there in His presence, in a place of refuge and calm. I lived in FiDi for over 10+ years when I lived in NYC and this was my neighborhood Church. There's something to be said about finding solace or quiet in the midst of Wall Street. The juxtaposition of a large Investment Bank, across the street from the Church is always amusing! When I attended Sunday masses, there was a lady who had the most beautiful voice - I always wondered whether she was a retired Broadway actress...I think I recall one time, that she sang Don't Cry For Me Argentina at one service - to close out the service...it...

This venerated place has been my anchor through the many storms that every person faces on the path of life. It's place in my life was cemented when in 1982 I had the Christening of my first child preformed and celebrated at this safe harbor of the financial district.
