The irony is that today (10/19/24), the Queens Historical Society caused me to forego Queens for Brooklyn! I couldn't pass up this rare walking tour of Greenpoint, even though I'd already signed up for a guided hike through Cunningham Park as part of Open House New York Weekend, October 2024. Oh well, I went to that park frequently as a child. The Greenpoint tour went into overtime by almost an hour, which is unheard of for a tour that charges less than twenty dollars. The guides, an older married couple, were very enthusiastic & knowledgeable, being Greenpoint natives themselves. Read moreWe had a great experience at the museum. The current exhibit offers a fascinating look into early Queens history. They have a photo exhibit showing rural Queens prior to city streets and urban expansion. Seeing farms and homesteads in Queens was very interesting and much different than the modern city. Please keep in mind that this is a small museum, so unlike the larger museums, there are a limited number of staff. I would like to give a huge shoutout to all the amazing staff there who work tirelessly to keep the museum open and running.
