One of the busiest stations in queens, the J line customers transfer here to the E line down the queens corridor, the LIRR customers switch to the E line when the railway is delayed or there's no service to Penn station, the tourists from the Air train Jamaica station get the subway to Port Authority and Penn, all without the help of transit ambassadors, so crowded and signs that are no help. Platform level has signage from planet lost in space, NYCT needs to remove all dual Exit/connection signs and put up exit w/ arrows - connection with up/down arrows for J & LIRR/AIRTRAIN - destination only on each side of the platform to clear up the confusion of current signs. The only signs that help are the station name signs. A help desk for lost items left on trains by tourists and signs on the mezz explaining the fares on the 3 stations ($5 air train/$6.75 LIRR to Penn/$2.75 subway to everywhere else) is so missing!! ($40 on a Air train MetroCard can't be used to ride the subway- its only good for eight $5 air...
Read moreGritty, morbid and completely disgusting with swipers standing near all of the turnstiles harassing people for a metro card swipe. I've had the unfortunate luck of using this station since I was a child. It was ghetto back then, still is, now its just plain hell. You have the annoying tourists coming in from the Airtrain blocking the center of the station with their large suitcases. Then you've got the obnoxious riders from the LiRR who can't afford to take it into Manhattan. And of course how can you not forget about those coming up from the J train who also refuse to take that thing into Manhattan as well .All these people congregate the entire platform making the E so congested to the point where you can't even board it. Overall this station is hell all hours of the day. P.S I find it hilarious when the tourists take their pitiful selfies, as if trying to show admiration for the stations ugly dilapidated architecture or the fact that they’re in NYC. Don't let the swipers swipe you...
Read morethis station gets an A+ for connectivity and convenience. It has elevators and is conveniently located right below LIRR and the AirTrain to JFK, plus OMNY has helped to kill down some hideous lines for MetroCard machines. The only thing I would say it needs to fix up(this shouldn't shock anybody) is the appearance and cleanliness, this is actually one of the newest stations on the whole subway (built in 1988) with that said, I think a fresh coat of paint and to regularly clean it would really give it a boost. Nobody wants to see paint chipping off the walls and the aging tiles are a really ugly feature now, the Enhanced Station initiative would really do this place good, particularly with some new floors. Either way the MTA needs to start thinking and taking care of all subway stations like they would for the Second...
