Poor quality produce and doesn't look good, unfriendly staff, owners look at you as if you were a shoplifter and they were the prison guards. Aisles are very narrow, unfit for passing. A good variety of products but hefty prices far above normal. No promotions, only high prices, even on ice cream. Example: Bumble Bee White Albacore Tuna $3.29 a can. $1 more than the Duane Reade 20 yards away. 9.25oz. bag of Fritos at DR 3.99, Westside price $4.99. Cashiers rush you, check out the next customer before you bag your own. Not especially covid respectful. Update 21/11/22: Worse than ever, pushy and rude checkout lady, dirty floors, second tier produce, bruised tomatoes, not a smile in sight to this overgrown prison reform market that prides itself on everything but does nothing well or with the customer in mind. One filthy place! Replace management for a kinder, cleaner market. There is even a huge black bouncer with a security shirt on, just to give you an idea of the atmosphere of this poor excuse for a neighborhood market. From Columbia U. to the elegance of Strauss Park with Riverside proximity, our historical Upper West side neighborhood deserves a market commensurate with its people and traditions. The owners should sell, our concerns of a clean store and serviable staff to enjoy marketing in are unlikely to ever become theirs. Update 07/23. This poor excuse for a market has become the most expensive north of 59th street. Over $7 for Triscuits? Over $30 for 92 oz. Tide. They just make prices up! And as to their response below, they couldn't give a...
Read moreOver priced, and the quality of the vegetables are aweful. I was stoped after purchasing some over priced items for "not paying an item" and the people were so rude and imprudent, they were very embarrassed when they found out that the item which I had in a different bag is not even on sale at the West Side Market. I wasted more than an hour with the being held by the employees in the basement who were speaking and cursing at me in Spanish -dominican- without knowing I know perfect Spanish -but they were aware after I said what I had to say to them when I left and the cops were laughing- and thinking they were in a movie where they were the heroes, only to find out that the poor management -which right I assume will deny and cover the incident, realized the it is not sold at their store. What an shame of market, taking advantage of us Columbia Students and the area, this is an example of a company exceeedenly taking advantage and NOT CARING. I have announced the incident in Columbia. As the semester begins students are now aware to be more aware and to not shop there unless is truly necessary especially when they take out Columbia University food cards. For myself and most of my friends, we are never shopping at that aweful place. Open twenty four hours. Twenty four...
Read moreI would NOT recommend this grocery store. Bad customer service.
I bought one of their store-made items that had a sell by date of 5 days after I purchased it, but had definitely expired by the time of purchase.
Wasn't a problem, I returned the item and tried to get money back, but the guy pushed store credit on me. I figured this was fine because I live nearby and could easily use it.
I go to use it and they can't do the store credit at my register, so the clerk takes me to register 1. Register 1 is backed up but we wait there for a little before giving up and moving to register 10. We're at register 10 for a while because the woman checking out had issues with her apple pay. At this point, I've been waiting 10 minutes to use a store credit that was pushed on me. I ask if they can add another dollar for the inconvenience and the manager says no because there's 'no reason'. The clerk and I try to explain but the guy still says no. This is just bad customer service and a dollar is not a lot of money right this ...
Prior to this I went to this store probably twice a week, but there are at least 4 other grocery stores in walking distance from my apartment so I'll be using those...
