🤫 pros 📍wifi is well connected and super fast. 📍It is a block away from the super market. And 96th subway station is 6 minutes away. (which is very good, cause both express(2,3) and local(1) lines stop at 96th station. ) 📍You can get deliveries from Amazon or whatever. 📍The bathrooms were quite clean. They clean every morning.
😑 cons 💯Magical elevator The only elevator there suddenly becomes "Out of service" and you should go up with stairs. Sometimes it works, but for just few days or only during house keeping time. And then, like next morning or in that evening, it goes "Out of service" AGAIN, 3 or 4 days in a row. I don't know how the normal elevator goes "Out of service" that easily, that frequently. Anyway, don't forget. If you insist to choose this place, make sure to know when the elevator works, to prevent yourself carrying 6.61 lb of water bottle climbing up the stairs.
It's very funny that there's another review talking about the elevator, and it was written 5 months ago. How could this happen?
💯Uncaring and indifferent staff I think they don't care about the guests that much. They don't even know the hotel policy. If they don't know well, who should I ask?
💯"Dexter kill room" like laundry place There's a steep stairs to the basement. Of course you should use this, because the elevator will go out of service frequently. (and even if it works, it doesn't go to the basement, they might not gonna tell you this. ) Laundry place is basically like a abandoned garage, where desks and paint cans are stacked. Very dirty and creepy.
💯Laundry card You should pay $5 first for the deposit. The charger machine says 'deposit', but if you meet some staff who doesn't understand what deposit means, you cannot get back your money. And the money you charged for laundry card, you can't get back.
💯Sudden cold water attack 🚿 I said the bathrooms are clean, but when you are in the middle of a shower, the hot water suddenly doesn't come out. It happened few times.
💯Epic fail of soundproofing You can even hear the sound from your neighbors, so it could be a great time if you're planning to make friends with strangers. And 98% of no-privacy-guaranteed during your shower. Anyone near the bathroom can hear you. Also, you can hear some annoying water dripping sound during your sleep. I know ASMR is a thing these days, but it...
Read moreI have stayed at the hotel for a little over 1 month now, so I've had enough time to access the property. The property is in a great neighborhood on the UWS convenient to the 96th St subway stop and everything you will need within a 2-4 block radius. The building is well maintained with the exception of the lobby which definitely needs some sprucing up. The staff does a fairly decent job of tending to request for maintenance, but do expect to followup 2-3 times to have issues addressed. The cleaning staff is excellent and the hallways and bathrooms(shared) are cleaned twice a day.
If you need wifi, its not the best and I've has nothing but problems with the connection dropping since the day I arrived. The Mgmt has replaced the equipment and gateway, but the signal is still very weak as it relates to streaming video or conducting Webinars. Its stalls quite a bit and is very frustrating to say the least. For a better connection, the Starbucks directly across the street is great, however the Mmgt there is taken out the electrical outlets, so you cannot plug in. Make sure you have a full batter. The Mc'Donald's on Broadway between 96th and 95th is a good alternative to the Starbucks.
I've also had issues with several cable stations not having sound, I've spoken to Mgmt, the maintenance staff has looked into the issue, but no resolution todate.
All in all, I'm satisfied with Hotel 99, but because of the wifi and cable issues I'd give them a 3.5 out of 5 rating. If those issues did not exist, easily 4.5 out of 5. Great value for cost and the pictures you see online are very accurate.

The Staff was also amazing, Johanna helped us to use the TV, Carlos brought us an extra desk & chair to allow us to work.|Hot water didn't worked on Sunday, and as I told Ashleigh in less than an hour it was fixed.|Shared bathrooms and kitchens are really clean, and people is very respectful.|The situation of the Hotel is in a very good area with plenty of supermarkets, and other stores, not too noisy (don't forget that you are in NYC, not at your home in the middle of the mountains). Many city bikes stations, subway station, Express 3 stopping 3 street away from the hotel, not more than 5 minutes walking. Central Park is very close too.|Unfortunately we had to leave and come back home to Spain because of the health situation of the country, our insurance, and air space supposed to be closed. We only have kind words for the Hotel, the Staff, the people we met there!|We totally recommend this Hotel for short or even longer...
