I wanted to like this place given how good many of the reviews are, but I've been left very disappointed. I came here 2 weeks ago for a Japanese straightening perm after seeing all the beautiful pictures here. I have gotten them several times before and needed to find a new salon to go to. I asked beforehand how much it would cost for the perm and a haircut and I was told $280. During the first treatment, my hair was barely trimmed, including my side bangs which were uneven. I was also charged $300, but I just let it slide and decided I'd get the trim done later or even fix up the bangs myself. After waiting 72 hours to wash my hair, it came out wavy. It was straighter on top, but by no means straight. The first picture I included is what it looked like after this first wash. Dismayed, I asked for a refund since the hair was not pin straight as it should have been. The salon would not give me a refund unless I let them try to fix it first, so even though I didn't want to get another round of chemicals/treatments done to my hair, I figured it was worthwhile to let them work on it a week after the first perm. During this 2nd treatment I asked if he could trim my dead ends and he told me the ends were fine and very silky now. After 48 hours I washed this 2nd treatment and again, it was wavy. I tried giving it another wash to no avail. The 2nd and 3rd pictures are from these two washes. If I blow dry it, I can get it straight, but with my previous straight perms I could let it air dry in humid weather and still have it come out pin straight with no frizz. After bringing this up to the salon again and asking for a refund again, I was told it must be my fault that the perm did not work. I mentioned again that this is not my first straight perm, and I took care of it the exact same way I've done before where they worked beautifully. Eventually, the salon stopped responding to me, so I went in person to ask for a refund again since I had still not gotten what I wanted. I was refused again, and offered half off my next perm as a compromise. I told them I did not want this deal because after 2 rounds of the perm not working, why would I come again? I even tried to get at least a partial refund to account for their hours of labor, and was still told no. After now two weeks of back and forth, I have not gotten a refund and will need to go to another hair appointment to fix my extremely dead and frizzy ends after 2 rounds of damaging treatments. I am seriously disappointed with the results, and will obviously not be returning.

I normally dislike traveling to Flushing unless I’m venturing to try something new. I also normally go get my haircuts on Bell Blvd but I feel I’ve already visited every salon on Bell and nothing comes quite close to how Jay at Xinyu handled my haircut. I hope he never leaves. I should hire him as my personal hair dresser just in case. I called at first to check if they were open but was directed to leave a voicemail. Bummer. However, a second after hanging up, I get a text saying they’re busy and will call back. So I proceeded to ask if an appointment was necessary for a haircut via text. I was told to just come in. Great! I was the second customer there. If you’re thinking of guidelines of safety, I would say you might be shocked as they don’t really enforce safety measures except everyone wearing a mask. I don’t know how they’ll do with social distancing as I was the second customer in there. The haircut looks amazing. See photo. Jay spent quality time on my hair and showed some serious TLC. I told him how I normally handle my hair, which I’m very low maintenance about. I also showed him a picture of which cuts I was interested in and he mimicked the style. What shocked me the most is, my haircut only cost $30. Given the length and price comparison to other places, this is by far the most affordable price in my experience. I would most definitely come back to color my hair if I decide to do so in the near future. Thanks, Jay! PS-forgot to add that it’s a cash only place

I have nothing but great things to say about this salon, and Johnny, my hairdresser. He's so helpful and super responsive. I sent him a text enquiring about transforming my dry, brittle, brassy hair into a smooth ash-blonde. He replied in nearly seconds and we set up an appointment the following week. Later on, he texted to inform me that there was a promotion of 10% off coloring Mon-Fri so I rescheduled my appointment for an earlier date, and he was most accommodating. He told me to arrive early, as this appointment would take several hours (in one sitting). He was the most attentive, helpful and friendly hairdresser I have ever had (and I've been to quite a few salons). One thing I have to say, is that I could more easily communicate with him because I'm somewhat fluent in Mandarin, while other customers did struggle a bit. But Johnny and the other hairdressers will always make sure to understand what you want before moving forward. I will definitely be coming here again.

Horror... I haven't written any review in my whole life but feel I need to share this. I went to this place guided by the good reviews, when I arrived to that place some people did not speak English some others hardly speak English but despite that I decided to give it a go because the reviews. Jhony the stilist said 220 price, then when he was doing my hair he said it will be 240 as he said my hair was longer that what he thought. He left the chemicals on my hair for 1 hr then washed it and applied other product on my hair for some time, under some heat, then he blow dried and straighten my hair and asked me to leave it with the second chemical for two days. I did it, when I was washing my hair two days later I felt it very rubbery elastic, after that I just realised how burnt is my hair now, the texture is like the hair of an old doll. Before I left he asked me if i want to give a tip to the lady who washed my hair that day so I finished paying 250 dlls. My hair was 3 inches long below my shoulders, now I have to cut it as short as guys. I won't recommend this place at all, it is obvious the guy doesnt know how to do the treatment because in the proffessional instructions said the chemical should be left only for 20 minutes , then wash, then dry, straighteg and apply the second chemical for 10 min then wash. I read this after seeing How damaged is my hair to understand what happened, now...
