To be fair, I'll start with the good aspects. The place was clean and the decor in-line with what you'd expect from a 3-star hotel.
Now for the unpleasant part: We booked two rooms here because of it's proximity to LGA. I had a meeting two hours after landing and was hoping to check-in and freshen up. When I got there, the street that the hotel was located on was closed for construction. When I called the hotel operator they had no idea and couldn't provide me alternate directions. They tried sending me two blocks over which was completely wrong. This lasted an hour so I decided to go about my day and try again at night.
Again, the street was blocked for construction. when I called this time, the night operator was much more helpful and directed us to their parking garage the next block over. He assured me that as a Hyatt guest the parking would be free (they do offer paid parking for outsiders.) You can imagine my surprise when I got $26 parking bill at checkout. When I looked the the standard parking rates in the parking garage I saw that I would have been better off paying directly and not going through the hotel. I'm disappointed that they wouldn't honor the first employees promise. Their excuse was that he must have mistaken me for a higher tier member....
This is a much smaller detail, but all hotels I've been to (hundreds) have offered basic amenities (sometimes free and sometimes with a charge), such as drinking water, in the rooms. They didn't even have vending machines to get a bottle of water on each floor. You had to go down 9 floors to grab a glass of water.
The elevators are not maintained. After this whole frustrating experience we just wanted to get to our rooms. Turns out the bottom for our floor number want working on the elevator. An employee spent a few minutes trying to get it to work.
The only thing I found disappointing in the rooms themselves was the water pressure. It's very weak and not what I'd expect from a reputable hotel.
All in all, I would not use this hotel again and will probably try the Marriott which it's...
Read moreIf I could leave zero- or negative- star for this hotel, I would definitely do that. We stayed at this hotel for one night last week. First of all, the location is good if you are interested in Asian restaurants nearby. The wifi speed was terrible. However, the most terrible/disappointing thing about this hotel is their service. We checked out around 2pm and found out that a puffer jacket was left in the closet of the hotel room ~2 hours later. We were at Manhattan at that time so we called the front desk immediately hoping that we could go back to the hotel to pick up the jacket before going home. The first person answering the phone said that he needs to contact housekeeper and promised us to call us back within couple minutes. We waited for more than an hour without any response. We thus made a phone call again and the same person answered the phone. We were told that nothing was found in the room and the person was extremely rude to hang up the phone before our conversation was finished. We are 100% sure that the jacket is in the hotel room. Therefore, we called again and someone else answered the phone. We were told the same thing- he said that he will check again and will give us a call back within couple minutes. Until now (more than a week later), no one from the hotel has contacted us. We also contacted Hyatt customer service and were told that they have asked the hotel management team to give us a call before January 2. Unfortunately, no one from the hotel contacted us.
We are VERY VERY VERY disappointed to learn that this hotel treats their customers with such disrespect and rudeness since we used to assume that Hyatt hotels have high level of service quality. I am not saying that we are not at fault, but I think how the hotel deals with missing item is something that can really differentiate a good and a bad hotel. It is terrible to understand that people in this hotel are so dishonest. We will see how long this hotel needs to make...
Read moreThe important thing to remember about Hyatt Place Flushing is that it is an airport hotel, and as such is very basic. We booked three nights here, 2 using our World of Hyatt points, because it was significantly cheaper than staying in Manhattan or Brooklyn.
Pros: Extremely friendly staff. Great location only 5 minutes from the Metro and the Long Island Railroad. Excellent dining options in every direction around the hotel. No problems with requesting late checkout. Great pool (cold though) and wonderful rooftop bar.
Cons: Any requests beyond more towels will cause massive confusion. My husband asked to use their fridge to hide my surprise birthday cake. While eventually they granted his request, it was quite an ordeal both with the original request and then with getting the cake back on my birthday.
The place is heavily trafficked and not cleaned fully. Our shower curtain had mold on it. I asked my son to keep his socks on in the room because the carpet wasn't vacuumed well.
Breakfast was terrible. We stay at a lot of Hyatts, and this one had the worst breakfast we've ever had. Stale, hard bread. Cold, chewy french toast. It was obvious they were reusing the food from the previous days breakfast. The bowl of chopped fruit on the third day of our stay looked so old and slimy we just passed. There are some great, inexpensive breakfast options around the hotel, so you might want to take advantage.
Overall we had a good time. The price can't be beat. As long as you remember that this is not meant to be a vacation spot and is more of a safe, clean-ish place to put your head you'll enjoy your stay. If you're looking for fancy or other Hyatts more on par with the quality usually associated with the chain, stay (and pay)...
