Grandson loves the geese and wildlife. Beautiful view of the Cincinnati side and Red's ballpark. Oh! And we can't forget the play area and memorial. It is a shame Newport is sacrificing this beautiful park for money. UPDATE: What Newport has done to this quaint little park is criminal. They took out nearly all of the trees. Some of them hundreds of years old. The playground is unsafe with a steep hill and no barriers keeping your children from falling down the hill into the Licking River. Almost all wildlife except for the geese are gone. All of the wood that the city dumped as well as asphalt was pushed into the river. Word has it they did the same a few years back with the picnic tables and benches at the bottom of the hill below the picnic shelter. The corruption in Newport is as strong today as it was...
Read moreI would say it is generally a poor park save the view. There is a private rowing club at the end which has a super nice boat launch you can occasionally use depending on who’s there and how far the stick is up their rear. They also lock a divider which prevents you driving your car in or out so don’t park past it unless you wish to be stranded.
There is constant trash, litter, fish hooks and line and general rubbish all around the park - sad really. Also, the water level of the licking and Ohio often cause debris to be everywhere. The only redeeming quality of this park is the good view. I like to throw my kayak in here at the mouth of the Ohio and have a good view of the city. But getting your boat in and out can be a bit hard unless using the private clubs ramp - which is rare...
Read morePark is sort of run down- as someone has mentioned there is a lot of geese poop even in the early spring, so I can't imagine how unsafe it would be for children in the height of summer. The playground is good, but could be maintained better. Great views of Cincinnati if that's what you want to see. The Riverwalk goes up to Newport on the levee which is nice. There were several ducks at the park and the view of the licking river is good. I don't think many people know this park is here which is good for a peaceful moment however there are much better parks and picnicking spots so if you want that better to go somewhere else. Good for letting children run off steam as long as you watch them closely since the drop off edges are...
