I booked my reservation for 1 night by directly calling Cincinnati Marriott at RiverCenter. I requested a room with a riverfront view. The person taking the reservation stated I couldn't do that as it's first come first serve. Then, I was transferred to another department to hear about a vacation stay. I did purchase a 3 night/4 day vacation package. About 1 month later, I called again to add another night to Cincinnati Marriott at RiverCenter.
I arrived to check-in around 3PM. At that time, the only room available was a 2nd floor room facing another building (no view) because there were no other double-bed rooms available. I said I would wait to until more rooms open up as check-in time is 4PM. I stopped by a couple of times to check room availabilty. Finally, I checked-in around 4PM. There was one room available on 5th floor with a view of the gravel roof and facing another building. I told the check-in person that I attempted to reserve a room with a better view and was told it's first come first serve. She state that I could have reserved a room a room with a view and there is not first come first serve policy. I told her I would have paid reasonably more for a room with a better view. She gave me breakfast vouchers to alleviate the wrong information I received.
We arrived to the room. The room did need updating as there was a damp smell also bed mattress and pillows were lumpy. The shower did not drain and the water pooled up. I didn't even bother calling maintenance since it was very late in the evening. I didn't ask the room to be cleaned and instead requested 500 Marriott points. The second evening there was a letter stating my room was not cleaned because I had put up the privacy tag - this is not accurate. I placed the tag stating I wanted Marriott points.
This stay was one bad consumer experience after another (with the exception of the person who checked me in and gave me breakfast vouchers). This is not what I expected from Marriott. The hotel reservation does not provide accurate information or the availabilty to upgrade the room to get a better view; not enough rooms were cleaned at the time of check-in (especially a Friday before a long weekend) and the rooms were poorly maintained. I would stay in another hotel instead of this location.
I hope the 3 night/4 day vacation stay experience purchased for another location is much better than Cincinnati Marriott at...
Read moreEven though Marriott is my favorite brand, this is by far the worst Marriott hotel I've stayed at. The only 2 reasons I've come back here is because of how great the staff is, and it's location is convenient for my business trip. But as outdated and unclean as this hotel is, I'm seriously having a hard time considering recommending Marriott brand as a whole to anyone else, as there might be more of these unclean / outdated / musky rooms out there at different Marriott hotels that has clearly visible large stains all over the carpet and walls, to the extend that I would not be comfortable even bringing someone over. Marriott HDQ seriously needs to survey every room at this hotel (as I've stayed in a few) and notice for themselves how horrid it is. My previous stay, there was a huge urine stain on the bed that seeped all the way through the bedding. The first time it was reported, the lady changed the top sheets, where the stain was still visible through. Upon calling front desk again, the 2nd personnel looked at it and had the entire bed changed right away. This is also the 15th floor river-view room (one of your most expensive room). That is seriously unacceptable! IF you need picture proofs, feel free to contact me as I've saved a bunch which might end up on google reviews shortly. Overall, VERY disappointed with particular hotel. The only good part was truly the staff. The concierge's staff (both during the breakfast and dinner time) had the two (2) nicest people I've met, and they truly make the stay worth the while. Otherwise, location alone wouldn't be enough to have made me come back at this place. To Marriott Management: Seriously need to update EVERYTHING in this hotel! The towels feel as rough as sandpaper, if you find a clean one without someone else's hair in it. The sheets seem old as if it's reused for decades and the comforter looks like it's never been cleaned! Look into your upper management of this hotel, as the issue seems to lie more towards that end rather than the staff, all of which so far has been absolutely phenomenal whenever I've interacted with them. I'm sure the staff can only do so much to upkeep and clean the rooms, when upper management isn't willing to renovate the room nor replace items in a...
Read moreWe visited this hotel sept.28th-sept30th. If you prefer updated rooms that aren’t stale and grimy then you should NOT book. We were looking for a relatively nice stay and thought this 4-star hotel would provide that.
Initially we were given the key to someone else’s hotel room. We walked in the room with the access they gave us and saw someone still in it, suitcase, make ups bags everything. It was embarrassing. The concierge was very kind and professional, wasn’t their fault just something wrong with their booking system.
They moved us to another room that was riverfront but it was dirty… floor was nasty with black spots and bathroom had grime and stains/ build up on the bottom of the shower with stains on the fresh towels. I was horrified. Toilet was also in the middle of shower and sink with a cheap plastic seat. The window had palm prints all over it from previous guests. We were so uncomfortable. And knew there was no point in moving rooms. All rooms seemed to be like this. This is a 4-star hotel but the rooms feel like 2-star.
As a note, the rooms are ‘remodeled’ with vinyl floors. But you can tell management just slapped on some improvements to outdated musty rooms. There were water stains on the ceilings, and stains on the bedframe.
The night after our first stay someone opened our room door. No knocking, no announcing. Thankfully I put on the safety lock the night before because I did not feel secure since I was given access to someone else’s room on accident when I first checked in. Only after they realized they couldn’t get in did they yell “HOUSEKEEPING.”
This was the worst hotel I have stayed in for a while. And I hope this will help others avoid it if they desire to stay in a clean and updated room. Only redeeming quality is location.
Also a leash less dog was walking around the lobby at some point?
TLDR: Rooms are grimy, old and cheaply updated. Safety concerns - was given key access to someone else’s occupied room on accident. Staff tried to enter our room without announcing. 2-star...
