Blinkers Tavern, for our visit, was a hard to get a reservation, with decent food, and very accommodating service.
Tired for days to get a reservation, then our group of seven finally got one at 4:00 PM. It was either 4:00 PM or 9:00 PM, so we had to adjust our plans, but it's Blinkers and it was recommended to us as we were visiting. I understand they are busy, just like a lot of other restaurants, as more people come back out to dine again.
Got there right at 4:00 PM, got seated, and then got introduced to Shelly, our server. She worked hard to serve us and did a great job. We ordered a round of drinks, some wine, some appetizers, salads, dinner, and drank lots of water.
My son does not like steak and there was nothing else on the menu that he liked, so Shelly let him order a grilled cheese off the kids menu. My daughter also does not like steak, so Shelly accommodated her with a bowl of butter noodles. Some places we go, they just cannot do it for whatever reason and it leaves the kids dejected. It's refreshing when a restaurant/server is flexible with your kids' wants and needs!
Salads came on cold plates. Dinner came on warm plates.
All of the steaks had some extra char on them and that's probably what Blinkers does on purpose to make the steak pop with flavor! However, my wife was most surprised with was how much char was on the steak. It was nearly black with char. With some char on a filet is great, the copious amounts on the Blinkers Tavern Filet was not what she was expecting, however.
Being from Kansas City, I ordered the New York strip steak, which is called a KC Strip in Kansas City. LOL. Not sure of the history behind NY Strip verses KC Strip, but they are the same cut with just a different name. Maybe, the name used is just the one the owner is most familiar with?
Overall, everyone in the group enjoyed our dinner. I would recommend the Blinkers Tavern because of the quant/semi-private tables, friendliness of staff, and...

Read morei recommend telling the chef that you want your steak rare unless you want it to come out grey and dry. this will be the third steak i have ordered at medium rare that came out medium well in a row. i came tonight to celebrate my 5 year anniversary with my partner hoping it would be better than my last experience, but left disappointed. the last time i came, i ordered the bone in ribeye and it came out over cooked. i work 3rd shift and needed to sleep before my shift so i said i didn’t have time to have my food remade, and they insisted on remaking it anyway. i took my steak home, cut into it, and it was the same way. i called the restaurant to ask what could be done, they gave me a credit (which is the reason i came out tonight), but not without telling me that the steak only overcooked because it was in the box… funny how i said that i DIDNT want another one made for me and now i’m blamed because i took it home.
fast forward to tonight, and i sent my steak back. i asked to use my credit for the last time, after they took my steak back and took it off the bill. they sent the same manager out who spoke to me last time, and he came out to tell me that i could not use the credit he gave me before because he already took the steak off tonight that i DIDNT EAT. how is my credit going to be used on a steak that i didnt eat or take home? if he was going to say me sending my food back canceled out my credit, i would have kept my food and dealt with it. ken, the manager i spoke with, takes 0 responsibility for anything and i have never been so frustrated and disappointed with a place so highly...
