The new owner is horrendous. Terrible customer service, please do not give them your business.
For quick, short version - recently got married and lost one of the diamonds in my wedding band. Rings made at this jeweler. New owner very nasty and wrote a discounted value on sticky note to do the work. We went to Wade Jewelers, never been there and they replaced the diamond, fixed/adjusted band and cleaned for NO COST.
Complete story of encounter with new owner below.
I gave Cape Fear a heads up on what happened and that we'd be coming in 12/23/2021. My mother and I met the new owner - he approached us and stood in a power stance - glared down at us and waited for one of us to speak. We re-explained what had happened. Go back a few years, when we got engaged, a stone had also fallen out of my engagement ring. The prior owner, Lee, replaced the emerald, adjusted the band and cleaned my rings without any hesitation.
Circling back to the new owner - He said he would not stand behind his jewelers. He compared it to owning a Honda and going to different Honda Service centers to get it taken care of (which I believe proves our point, that they'd recognize the work received at a different Honda Service center but that's a different story).
He raised his voice, saying he is not willing to loose any money and wrote a figure on a stickey note. He said the only person who may be willing to loose money on this is Lee and we asked if we could speak with him. Replied "No, I'm assisting other customers and busy right now"...after we've been talking for a few minutes and there were no other customers in the store. Even if there were any, there were 3 other jewelers there to assist.
I asked if he'd sign the stickey note so I can explore other options (if we return, can provide the stickey note to reference). He wouldn't. Later on, he told us that this was a discounted price and he's not interested in arguing with us anymore. When leaving, we decided we didn't want to provide him business even if it's cheaper because of this unnecessarily hostile interaction. Not once did either of us raise our voice.
We walked into WADE JEWELERS down the road and explained what happened. The owner, Chad, took both of my rings to the back, Murray worked his magic and came back out - let us know that they replaced the diamond (same quality as others), fixed the band and cleaned both of my rings. Chad said he didn't want us to loose faith in jewelrys and provided this service at NO COST to me. My mother and I have never provided Wade Jeweler's any business before. I walked out the door in shock, processing how polar opposite the two interactions were. And that a jeweler we have never provided business with did this all for free.
I typically do not write reviews and apologies for the length, but the experience we had needed to be shared. I would not want anyone to experiece the type of customer service and hostile interaction we did with the new owner at Cape Fear, especially around...
Read moreMy fiancé purchased my engagement ring and wedding band set from Cape Fear Jewelers. The rings were designed to interlock. We returned to have the center stone lowered, and the store confirmed they could do this custom work. They provided a drawing of the design, which we approved before moving forward.
However, the finished ring looked nothing like the agreed-upon drawing. Worse, because they failed to provide the individual doing the customization with the wedding band, the rings no longer interlock. Their only “solution” was to remove stones or cut into the wedding band—something we never agreed to.
We requested the original setting back so we could take the ring elsewhere, but they charged us over $800 for the replacement. When it was returned, the ring was the wrong size (larger than the band it was purchased with) and the diamond was loose in the setting. We now need to have the ring resized and the diamond reset at our own expense.
Because of the owner of Cape Fear Jewelers, I have spent most of my engagement without my ring, we are out an extra $800+, and we still don’t have a properly made set.
I was hopeful to have a good experience at this store but we only received poor communication and poor customer service for a very expensive...
Read moreI have bought several fine pieces of jewelry from Cape Fear over the years. But this place has fallen in customer service since it’s new ownership almost a year ago. The new owner will not back jewelry and workmanship of purchases from made during prior ownership. I had purchased a Diamond ring and the stones kept coming loose. Same jewelry store. The current owner was rude and didn’t want to talk to me. He stood in front of me with his arms crossed, staring down at me, and said he was too busy. Plus, there were no customers in the store and 3 other saleswomen listening to our conversation. Will never buy jewelry from that place again. The owner is arrogant and does not appreciate...
