Rude employees, lack of knowledge, and overall, not a good place to spend your money. I’ve come here twice, and both times, I was shocked at how employees treated customers.
The first time I came here I was a teen, and my dad was thinking about purchasing a firearm. I tagged along to assist with the language barrier, and the employee refused to sell my dad a firearm because he said he was buying it for me. I never went back here for probably 20 years, and I was mistaken for coming back.
I came back for a sale on ammo and regretted it. An employee was yelling across the store as soon as I walked in, another employee couldn’t answer basic questions about a firearm he was selling, and most employees were just standing around. Vanessa was the name of the employee yelling, and she yelled again if anyone needed help with something quick. I said that I needed some ammo. She rudely said, “You need a background check for that! So no!” There was no one else that needed assistance other than me. Vanessa then answers the phone, which of course, can clearly be heard from how loud she is, and rudely tells the customers, “Wait! Wait! Wait! I don’t know what you are talking about! I have to write it down or I am going to forget!” Another employee said something like I could have helped the person on the phone with fishing stuff, and Vanessa replies, “I knew was he was talking about! I just wanted him to slow down!” and laughed.
I’m a pretty understanding person for most things, but the lack of knowledge, basic customer service, and professionalism is missing completely from this establishment. I would rather pay full price at another store that respects...
Read moreTurner's has never been my "go-to" in the past, except when I'm in need of specific items in an immediate time frame. But on this occasion, I went to their Norwalk location to conduct a private-party transfer.
When I arrived, they wanted my ID, proof of residency, and firearm safety certificate. The first two I have as original documents, but I never carry my FSC and only have it in email and PDF. They would accept neither, but were happy to charge me $25 to take a new test.
I've purchased six guns in the last two years and purchased ammo on no less than 10 occasions. I'm in the system, as is my FSC. I could've sent it to them, as I do every gun shop I go to, via email, but Turner's is the only store to demand an original copy... Which is just a printed piece of paper, just like the one they gave back to me as a test result. Then had the nerve to ask for $2 to laminate it.
I know it sounds petty, but that just struck me as cheap and being sticklers for a rule I'm not even violating. On top of the insanely high prices for ammo ($1.60/rd for 308. Sure.), and I'm never going back to any locations. Local gun stores are better anyhow.
EDIT: The crappiness of this place never ends. Now I can't pick up my firearm because I came (only) 1 hour before closing. Without notice, they have a policy of stopping customer service am hour before so they can get out on time and not have people walking in at the last minute.

Read moreI am a return customer of Turner's Outdoorsman and this Norwalk location in my neighborhood store. You might assume assume I'm automatically giving a 5 Star rating. It was almost a 1 Star review and the sales staff at the gun counter really earned this upgrade to what could have been a bad 1 Star review.
The situation I got myself into is letting my CA DL lapse. Frankly the CA DMV is a hell hole you want to avoid and I put off dealing with getting my new license.
Turner's put off my background check and said I needed to have the actual plastic new card and not just the temporary paperwork proving you are legal.
Since I had my car registration and a utility bill one of the counter people thought he could start the background check and not lose anymore time waiting for my new gun.
Anyone who has done this paperwork knows how much time it takes to process the forms. After about a half an hour another salesperson remarked that our efforts would be rejected by CA from his previous experience without a valid state issued DL or Photo ID. It can't be a temporary paper version even with the expired card.
Frankly I can't believe this is the state of our state but they screw with is because they can and hope we get frustrated and go...
