Do you ever get the feeling that malls are an endangered species? Like the humble Dodo, you only realize they are disappearing when it occurs to you to look for one and thus find it is no longer there.
Paddock seems healthy enough, I suppose. It is clean, brightly lit, amd seems adequately staffed. There are cars outside and a small but steady stream of shoppers meandering inside. As with most malls, things pick up after the local high schools adjourn. The shops are all well stocked and inviting. There are few interior shop locations walled off for lack of a tenent.
All seems well.
But, despite this look of vigor, I find I never go to the mall, ever, unless a specific item I need is available at a store found only there. Haven't just "shopped", much less gone just for coffee or dinner, in over a decade.
Just me and the wife feeling this way? Could be, I suppose. Just older folks adopting old folks's habits? I'm 56. Wifey is 48. Guess it could be that.
Still, the mall in Leesburg would be a full-on ghost town if it weren't for the theater and entertainment complex. Other malls are just gone. Replaced with more shoppimg, to be sure, but malls no more.
As I said, Paddock feels alive... still. A nice mall. Entirely typical of the species, but otherwise healthy in all outward...

Read moreI normally enjoy shopping at this location, and have always found mall employees to be friendly and respectful. However, today I experienced a disturbing interaction while shopping with my family. I was followed and harassed by an employee at the massage kiosk in front of the Bunker 27 clothing store. This employee repeatedly tried to convince me to buy a massage despite me telling him "no thank you" very clearly, and followed me away from the kiosk. He motioned as if to touch my shoulder as I walked away with my back turned, and did not desist until I raised my voice to say "no thank you" very loudly. This interaction made me extremely unsafe, especially since I had my two young children with me. I was not able to see a name tag on this employee, but I observed that he appeared to be in his 60s and of Asian descent. I mention his race strictly for identification purposes, with absolutely no discrimination intended. I have contacted the general manager at the mall and the security office, and hope that no one else has to experience this behavior while they are...
