Capitol Theater — Attraction in Olympia

Come here all the time. Large screen, good projector, very good sound (for both movies and concerts), nice staff, seats are decent, prices are reasonable, and audiences are polite (and sparse :/). They don't play as much different films as I would like (certainly they can't hold a candle to a classic repertory theater like the Brattle in Boston), but the films they do show are often very well chosen. I wish they would play less recent releases to be honest, often they show films that can be seen nearby at Regal Cinemas in Lacey or Century in Olympia weeks earlier. BUT considering that they get waaay smaller audiences than bigger city theaters, I am thankful they show what they do/can. So, in summary, support your local theatre, and get an affordable ticket and better presentation than the local chains (not to mention no boorish rude audience members), and for a concert with great sound. Capital Theater is an art house movie theater supported by the Olympia community. In addition to film, this extraordinary theater from bygone days showcases Olympia's finest musicians as well as folk, punk, rock and roll and indie music from all over the world. Theater and circus events are also known to happen here. The Olympia film festival happens every November. There us a main stage as well as a smaller black box Popcorn. Had to stand outside in 30 degree weather for an hour before the show, then wait an hour and 15 minutes inside. bathrooms were small not very clean. Concession stand was tiny and workers were slow. Speaker system was not great and the speakers overlapped the sides of the screen by just a little bit just enough to be annoying. All in all I won't be going back here. It's the little things like patching the small holes in the drywall making sure the paint is nice resealing the floor so it doesn't look disgusting. If any of these things would have been done the place would be nicer. But it seems the people care more about making a paycheck than actually keeping...
