I called asking for recommendations on toys for children with special needs and sensory disorders and was extremely disappointed. The person who answered my call really didn’t understand what I was asking for. I specifically referenced gross motor skills and he suggested fidget toys. He essentially wound up saying he was SURE they had something that would work but I should probably just come in myself to take a look.... during Covid.... so we had to do just that.
When we got there we had to wait outside with our kids (one of them being the special needs child), I don’t mind this in a way because the store was following guidelines and I appreciate that, but taking an unplanned trip and standing outside in the cold wasn’t my idea of a good time.
We finally got inside and started looking around... and there was really not much that fit the bill in terms of what we needed. There were no areas specifically for special needs (which I guess is fine, but from the conversation with their staff we thought they would have at least had SOMETHING). They didn’t even have wobble boards. No one offered to help us. The only staff was at the door and behind the register.
I’ve had problems with this shop feeling overly pretentious in the past, but this really hammered home for me that I can’t continue to support them. They need to work on better training for their staff (I know, I know, a lot to ask in downtown Olympia). It’s super frustrating to be a special needs parent in general. I don’t need the added frustration of people pretending to understand in order to maybe...
Read moreI came into today but my son some toys, we have shopped here for years even though the pricing is outrageous. Before taking my second step in the store, an employee rudely told us to leave because my TWO YEAR OLD SON didn’t have a mask! I’m sorry, you try to keep a mask on a toddler! It’s also not a requirement to put a mask on a child anywhere in the world. I understand adults wearing a mask, but children should not be forced to be involved with this mask B.S! I’m glad this business is doing so well that they can lose a longtime customer during an economic crisis. Please hire some people with common sense and respect. I’ll take the thousands of dollars I spend on toys every year to a more...
Read moreLove the variety of toys, clerk leaves something to be desired. Clerk asked if we needed help and I asked where robotics were. After circling 6 displays my 4 yr old beat her to it. After that we were making his birthday shopping list when when she said "just so you know we close in 2 minutes". I pointed out the painted on their window it says 7pm & not 6pm. She says "it shouldn't be. That's wrong". How the hell do we know your public window posted hours are wrong & shouldn't be 7!?!? I really want to support small biz but with employees like her no wonder some places struggle. Would've 1 starred but she doesn't represent the store imo and the other clerks tend to be very kind &...
