Just saw Bridges of Madison County. It was really great. The music, the vocals, the sets. All were SO well done for such a small, country venue. I can say this performance was easily on par with those much higher budget plays. Bravo! We purchased season tickets to Mill Town Players as soon as we moved here. This was our first play and our first time at the playhouse. The parking is great, the location is great, the playhouse has wonderful acoustics but TERRIBLE seats. It is like sitting on a stone bench for hours. I know they are aware that the seats are quite old and cushions are completely gone ( reading prior reviews and responses) and will address this in the future as budget allows....but a suggestion to bring a cushion to sit on should be part of the info about the venue. Maybe they feel this would dissuade people from attending? But I feel it would be a MUCH appreciated courtesy. People understand that it is a historic, old building and that is the charm in it but to be so uncomfortable in a seat distracts somewhat from the performance. What was equally as bad were several people continuously holding up their brightly glowing (in our faces) cell phones to video various parts of the play and then be texting ( with screen glowing) the entire time. This is SO rude and annoying to have this constant, bright glow in the dark theatre. It states clearly in the playbill that you cannot use cell phones or video record any part of play. And yet, multiple people did just that. Obviously they couldn't care less about those around them. We mentioned it to two ushers at the playhouse at intermission and they chuckled about it and brushed it off. So we felt dumb for even bothering to mention it and now assume this is a common occurrence and just has to be accepted as part of the experience. I understand this is a small community and people have family up there and know the actors. That is part of the wonderful charm of this theatre. But it isn't your kid's school play or dance recital. To be disrupting a performance like that, and such a WONDERFUL performance is just very sad. Maybe they could invite any family or friends to attend a full dress rehearsal and they can video and snap photos and text and be sending it all over their social media there?? Then they aren't ruining it for everyone else who is here to be fully swept up in their loved one's fine performances and the sets and the music. Please consider others! I don't want this to be a negative review though. While the seat situation (easily remedied by bringing cushions next time) and a few rude people using phones DID affect our full enjoyment of the play, the performance was WONDERFUL and I highly recommend people come and see these wonderful plays and the talented actors and musicians. Truly a blessing to have such amazing, live entertainment as part of our communities. We are thankful we found you and look forward to many more shows to come. Highly...
ย ย ย Read more1st time experience = fabulous, high caliber production with a great cast in a beautiful, historic, community theater. 'Always Patsy Cline' is a genuinely nostalgic musical celebration of a legendary talent, portrayed with humor and spot on renditions of tunes which have influenced generations of artists ever since they captured our hearts back in the 1950's. I just saw a handful of incredibly talented and humble souls (musicians and thespians) having an absolutely joyous time on stage, entertaining us through the storytelling music of the great Patsy Cline. Katie Rockwell brought breath to Patsy Cline through her amazingly lush voice and fabulous costumes. She transported us to another era before our very eyes, in the beautifully restored Peltzer Auditorium. Cindy Mixon provided us with a comedic yet very real life narration filling the entire theater with laughter and feet stomping, hand clapping good cheer. During intermission, people chatted with each other, strangers became all of a sudden neighbors and stories of previous productions united us in a little theater with a loving soul. The musical gentleman led by Larry Rockwell gave the production an energetic verve partnered with great lighting and a simple, yet high caliber production value which made you feel like you were watching an off Broadway show. Tonight, a community was brought together by the power of a stellar theater. My first time visiting this theatrical gem in it's 3rd season. Looking forward to future productions. Theater and life, so interchangeable, should we challenge ourselves to experience it in the real world! Thank you for an incredible evening sparkling with good 'ole Southern creativity. Only one more performance remains (Sun. Oct. 9 @ 3pm). -- Kavita Bali, Sat....
ย ย ย Read moreI love not only the affordability of Mill Town Players but the dedication of both the actors and crew. This is my third show at this location, and not once have I been disappointed. The only recommendation that I have for others wanting to come here is to make sure that you are okay with waiting for the restroom. The auditorium has two stalls in the men's and two in the women's... unless you want to wait, you have to go next door to the school. The seats are hard on your butt after about an hour and a half, but overall, it's very nice inside...
