Summary Overall, we enjoyed our stay for three days and two nights and enjoyed the banquet hall, which was our reason for staying at the hotel. We had a family member book the banquet room for a family birthday which was a delight and we are glad we went. The hotel is centrally located in the city, close to many activities and places to go for sightseeing and/or getting something to eat, most of which in walking distance while also being a 30-minute Uber ride from the airport.
Lobby and Shared Space The lobby, common bathrooms, hallways, banquet room, and lounge were all kept clean and had a unique boutique feel. I didn’t care for the art, but the style was fun, unique, and creative none the less so I could appreciate it even though it wasn’t my style.
Rooms The rooms were small but clean and well kept, with great use of space. They had a common theme throughout which was stylish, and again, while not my style; it was well thought out and executed nicely.
Restaurant/Bar/Banquet The hotels’ theme extended into the restaurant, bar, and banquet facility as well, and they were also stylish and clean. The rooms were well lit, fashionable, clean, and kept up though you could tell the building itself is dated but looked amazing considering the building itself was built in 1896. It apparently was one of the first high-rises in the city and centrally located with a lot of shopping and sights to see within walking distance.
Food We had breakfast on two of the days and dinner in the banquet room and all of the food was amazingly good. My brother n law picked the banquet food so I don’t know about that selection (it was all very good, a pork loin dish, Chicken Marcella, Retattoo, Brussel Sprouts, bread, and salad). The restaurant menu was limited and way overpriced but the food we received was very good.
Staff The bartender on Friday in the main lounge area (Lamont) was great, the banquet bartender and staff all had great attitudes, were very attentive to our needs and I would highly recommend their services. The front desk staff each time we came and went during our entire stay were friendly and helpful. The valet, and security guards looked like they were bored stiff but didn’t appear to have bad attitudes, and the bar tender on Saturday evening was not very friendly and a bit aloof. The manager on the floor in the lobby and in the dining room on Saturday was not too friendly and could use some training in people skills. 90% of the staff were great and I very much enjoyed interacting with them.
Price Rooms ranged from $274 to 1,054 a night. I was a little surprised by the additional taxes, worked out to approximately 15% instead of 8% sales tax. I usually try to travel on a budget and for that reason probably won’t go back but if someone else was paying or I needed to specifically stay there for some other reason I would happily go and...
Read moreThe hotel itself is good. Good area, Comfortable bed. Service was not as great unfortunately. I believe that's why this hotel isn't rated higher. That and the very high daily parking of close to $50 per day.
I came in last minute, late in the evening around 10pm. I saw online they had rooms available. Figured I'd just go do the reservation at the desk because it's like double work for me-same information online and then they still ask you for all the same information again at the check-in.
So walk in, ask for the room and they said I had to do it online. 1st strike.
I step aside, and I do it online. Frustrating
I walk back up, check in, walk up to the room and there's a loud continuous high pitch noise coming from the AC right as I walk in. Loud. I immediately walk out. I go downstairs and tell the employee who checked me if they could switch me rooms. The employee asked if he could call maintenance to try and come fix it, and I politely declined.
I explained, it was already late, I didn't want to wait for a maintenance man to come (who knows how long that was going to take) and work on a unit he may or may not be able to fix. Seeing as I hadn't even been in the room for 30 seconds and touched anything before I came back down I said "no and thank you" again.
Another employee, who I wasn't even speaking to at this point interrupted very aggressively and rudely said "you have to stay in the room, We cannot switch your room!" I was like "oh, yes you will or you will cancel my reservation". She again repeates the same thing. To which I tell her to cancel my reservation then. The back and forth continues until the first employee (more professional) offers a new room and to walk upstairs with me to see if this room (albeit smaller) would pass the noise test. I agree and we both walk upstairs. We both walk into the new room and no issues, it's totally fine. I thank the employee and he leaves. He did a great job! He's the only reason this hotel got two stars and not one.
All this to say, this was all completely unnecessary. I have no idea why Tiffany was so aggressive and rude towards me. She wasn't even part of the conversation.
I would never condone anyone to get in trouble, I'm a person who believes in better training and for basic customer service. Especially at a nicer hotel like this.
If you stay here just know you may have issues like this: Rooms which they acknowledged have loud AC units that have to be "tuned down", potentially rude employees, $50 a day parking, and definitely can't make a reservation at the...
Read moreThe hotel location and decor were great. Bed and pillows were some of the most comfortable I've sleep on. Regrettably, the service at the front desk left us feeling cold. We arrived at the hotel just after noon, in town for a wedding that afternoon and were hoping to have a bit of extra time to get ready in the room before standard check-in time. I messaged the hotel the day before in the Hilton app to inquire about early check-in and received the canned reply of "we will be happy to accommodate you subject to availability". We had already gotten notice of a King city-view room "upgrade" based on Hilton diamond status, and I further inquired if there were any specific rooms to select which might make it more probable to accommodate our request, and was again told only at check-in would this be considered. Upon arrival to the hotel at 12:45 we asked for early check-in and were told there were 4 weddings that weekend, and it was "first-come, first-served" for early check-in. Our name was put on the list with at least 8 others and were told we would be texted when a room was available. We stored our bags with the front desk, got a drink at the hotel restaurant bar (food and drink was good and our server Lauren was very attentive), and then went for a walk around the city. Cut to 3:30 and we still had not received a text about our room and proceeded to head back to the hotel. While I can understand if the hotel were fully booked the night before that it might not be possible to get into a room early, not getting a room assigned by check-in time is unacceptable. Arriving back at 4:45, we explained that we had not gotten notification about our room being ready, and we were unable to check-in digitally on the app after the check-in time. We got no explanation, no apology, no "thank you for being a diamond member". The service was curt and not welcoming in the least, regardless of how full the hotel may have been. Unfortunately after reading other reviews, our check-in experience doesn't seem to be an isolated one. I expect more from a $300 per night "boutique-style" hotel offering, and I have received warmer welcome at a Hampton Inn. Also, it's unclear if the room #1101 we received was an "upgrade" but I certainly wouldn't have paid extra for it, it was overlooking a building rooftop. There was also noticeable dust layer on the TV and overhead light fixture, the settee coming apart from the attached desk, and at least one of the refillable toiletry...
