My favorite neo-classical building in the city of Philadelphia, I am very glad that the National Park Service took it over years ago and continue to maintain it as its history stands just as impressive as its beautiful and intimidating facade. Definitely worth checking out and grabbing a few photos, particularly at sunset and/or at night. Learn about some of the amazing ghost stories, bank robberies, and other "what the hell" type events with my company - Seek - Explore Wander - on our popular "Wicked Philly" tour most Friday/Saturday nights as well as other evenings throughout the year.

The Merchants’ Exchange Building was designed by William Strickland in a Greek Revival style and constructed in 1834. A wordy poster exhibit about the history of the building is located inside its lobby. The temple-like exterior makes the building a favorite spot for wedding photos and selfies, while the National Park Service uses it as office space.

An excellent example of Greek Revival architecture in Old City Philadelphia, with its beautiful Corinthian columns and striking rotunda. I was especially struck by the strong parallels between this early American Republic style and architectural traditions in early to mid 1800s Ireland and the UK.

Oh the history here...this used to be a spot where you could buy anything from corn to photographs to stock certificates before it became America's first stock exchange. I love walking on the cobblestone surrounding the building. They are smaller stones that feel nice on the bottom...
