TLDR- Bedding was stained with blood on arrival, staff failed to solve the problem after multiple complaints, and were incredibly rude. Pasting the email I sent management (to which I received no reply) below in hopes that no one will have to experience the absolute embarrassment that was the service we received:
I and my partner recently stayed with you for one night on 4/19/2025. I am reaching out to express my extreme displeasure with the service we received during our stay:
When we first arrived, we noticed blood on the bedding in our room. I immediately brought the issue to the front desk staff person who sent housekeeping personnel to our room. When we returned to our room later that evening, we found that housekeeping failed to resolve the issue, as they only changed one sheet and the pillow cases, but we found more blood on the comforter. When we again brought this issue to the front desk, they merely brought us an additional blanket, taking no care to ensure the cleanliness of our room. We again found more blood on the bottom sheet in the morning.
Worst of all was the attitude of the front desk personnel whom we spoke to when checking out on the morning of 4/21. When we raised our displeasure with how our issue had been handled he cut me off to say that he was aware of the issue and that he knew it wasn't our fault. When we responded that it wasn't the blame we were concerned with but the failure of the staff to remedy the unsanitary state of our room, he first blamed the housekeeping staff and then assured us that the room would be sanitized for future guests. I am glad that the hotel plans to take the issue seriously for future guests but responded that I was concerned with the seeming lack of care for the state of the room while we stayed in it. He responded to us very aggressively and impolitely and offered no apology for the poor service we received.
I am extremely disappointed by the poor service from both the front desk and housekeeping staff. Our stay was negatively impacted by inattentiveness, unseriousness, and impolite behavior from multiple members of the staff. Our politeness and deference was responded to with unapologetic mistreatment, and I sincerely hope all involved parties reflect and seek to improve service going forward. Certainly the amount we paid for our stay was not commensurate with the horrible experience we received.
A response to my feedback from hotel management would be...
Read moreThe hotel is very nice and the room was large and comfortable. The location is great and easy walking distance to most of the historic site. You are right in the middle of old town--but it still feels safe---although downtown Philadelphia seems to be one of the dirtiest cities we've every stayed. I mean really dirty---if it's not owned by the government downtown--lets just say you'll use lots of hand sanitizer. Our only issue was staff/service. The evening person who checked us in seemed to be mad a the world---never could quite figure it out. After I heard him check in some additional guests I figured out it was just his unfriendly nature. Everyone was having trouble understanding his instructions for the parking garage--the details for parking are so long they give you a full page instruction guide---you then walk about 2 blocks to park your car. Apparently I didn't follow instructions correctly, but the attendant at the parking garage (which is not owned by the hotel) helped us out---she said "it happens all the time." The other service issue was the free breakfast. We arrived at 9 a.m. at the breakfast area, well before closing, and it involved lots of people looking at empty food containers waiting for them to be refilled. There only seemed to be one person working---she was cleaning tables and bringing out clean plates---there didn't seem to be anyone "cooking." Over 30 minutes after our arrival in the breakfast area, we figured out the "cook" was visiting with a group of guests at a table--talking baseball, family life, etc. When she finally got up---it didn't seem to change things and food never did come out. We were there around an hour and never saw eggs--although there were some cold hash browns and cold sausage. Food was free with our stay---but, I wouldn't count on the "hot" breakfast portion---although you could make your own waffles, which we did---and there was fruit and yogurt. Overall, it is a nice renovation of a very old hotel. Stay was fine, but don't expect friendly staff---although the one young lady working in the breakfast area cleaning tables was...
Read moreA more accurate rating is probably 3.5 stars but half stars aren't an option. Firstly the location is really good, it is at the end of a really long street but is close to some great eating places and pretty central to most other areas of interest. The rooms (or more accurately, our room) is on the small side but is clean and really comfortable. However the staff here are the weakest link - during our 4-night stay we encountered 4 different on reception and all 4, whilst not being rude, just seemed to be completely 'disengaged' - they were efficient without being pleasant or warm and welcoming. It's not that big a deal I guess but it definitely would have made the stay more pleasant. A good example is that when my wife took a shower, the water stayed in in the bottom of the cubicle and even after 30 mins, no water had gone. So of course we called reception and after initially being told "he would try to get someone to fix it", when we called back after 40 mins we were advsied that "no-one was available and they would try to get there to the next morning or the morning after, as they needed a special tool"..... so then to avoid not being able to shower for days I took it upon myelf to unscrew the silver cover over the drain, and then had to remove a large amount of human hair that was covering the drain. Problem fixed. So again, I think a fairer...
