I stayed here for Wrestlemania 40 (Friday-Tuesday). It was the hotel that was chosen by the outfit that did the travel package I purchased.
We'll start with the positives;
The hotel's location is great, this is it's greatest asset, it's within walking distance to many historic sites, and restaurants.
The front desk service was also very good, friendly and prompt.
The room itself was fine overall, everything you need is there; minifridge, coffee maker microwave. Bottled water was left for you daily (a very nice touch). The bed was quite comfortable and the HVAC worked well.
Housekeeping came by every day and did a good job.
There's a small shop near the front desk where you can get food/snacks/drinks for exorbitant prices. From what I could tell there were no other means to get snacks/drinks or vending machines on the premises.
The not so great aspects;
The bar/restaurant has a breakfast menu, but for whatever reason you weren't allowed to order off of it. They had a somewhat limited breakfast buffet each day I was there. And that was your only option. All I wanted was a waffle and maybe some toast, but even those basic items weren't on the buffet table. So I passed. Likewise, lunch wasn't really an option either as nobody seemed to working during lunch hours. Given the hotel's proximity to other restaurants this wasn't a huge deal, but it was a disappointment. The restaurant/bar also apparently doesn't take Visa, which is kinda odd.
There's a fire department located across the street, at least two or three times a night, they will get a call and firetrucks will come roaring down the street sirens blaring at 2 or 3 AM. If your room is located along on of the streets (mine was), this will likely wake you up. In fairness this isn't something that hotel can really do anything about, but it's something that guests should be aware of.
Parking fees are high I want to say it's around $30-$40 a day. I live about 4 hours from Philly, so driving was an option for me, but I ended up taking the train as the round trip ticket plus the uber/taxi to and from the train station was still going to end up being cheaper than paying for parking.
The rooms are showing their age, my room was mostly clean, however, the blackout blinds were fairly gnarly looking, they obviously hadn't been cleaned in some time.
Overall, it's a reasonably good hotel. But you can tell that it was previously a "nicer" lower end property ( I think it used to be one of the nicer holiday inn's) that was bought 15+ years ago, given a mild renovation and some upgrades and then marketed as a more upscale property than it was previously. In my case, it was the hotel that came with my travel package, and it was fine overall. But it was a step down compared to previous hotels I stayed at for previous WrestleMania's ( a Marriott Marquis, and a Sheraton respectively).
Suggested improvements;
Better operation of the restaurant; if you have published menus, let people order off of them.
More reasonable parking fees ( I think $20 a day for hotel guests would be agreeable for most people)
The rooms are due for some renovations. I'd say that in terms of facilities, it's more along the lines of what you might find at nicer Hampton Inn or Best Western. Compared to most Marriotts or Hiltons, it's not quite up to that standard. But again this particular place started out life as a Holiday Inn, and there's only so much you can do with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently stayed at this hotel over the weekend, checking in on Saturday, July 16th, and checking out on Monday at 8 am. Overall, my experience was a mix of positives and negatives, so let me break it down for you.
Check-in was smooth and hassle-free on Saturday, with no issues encountered. The room was clean and well-maintained, which was a pleasant surprise. However, one major downside was that the air conditioning in the room seemed to be malfunctioning. We were unable to turn it down or off, leaving us quite uncomfortable throughout the night. Despite requesting for assistance from the night front desk staff, she refused to provide us with extra blankets, which only added to our discomfort and made for a restless night's sleep.
The situation worsened when a fire alarm went off during the early morning hours, causing further sleep disruptions. It was apparent that this was an ongoing problem, indicating a potential lack of maintenance and attention to guest comfort and safety.
Upon checking out on Monday at 8 am, everything seemed to go smoothly. However, later that day, I realized I had left my purse in the lobby. When I returned to the hotel that afternoon, I encountered significant challenges. The front desk was understaffed and overwhelmed with new guests arriving, making it difficult for them to attend to my lost item promptly. The security guard was unable to access the cameras and lacked proper training to review the footage, which was disappointing. Additionally, calls to housekeeping went unanswered, making it hard to locate my purse.
The situation improved on Tuesday when I spoke to Erica, a Front Desk Agent, who displayed a high level of professionalism and was able to locate my purse successfully. This was a ray of hope amidst the previously disappointing experience.
On Thursday, when I called back to confirm the location of my purse, both the front desk agent on duty and the housekeeping supervisor were incredibly helpful and assisted me in confirming the UPS tracking number for the package. I was relieved to find out that my purse was on its way back to me.
One major takeaway from this stay is the hotel's excellent location. However, it seems that the hotel is struggling with staffing issues and lack of proper maintenance, leading to staff rudeness and inconveniences for the guests. The ongoing fire alarm problem is a clear example of this. It appears that guests are at the mercy of these challenges, affecting their overall experience.
In conclusion, while the hotel's location is undeniably great, there are evident areas for improvement. Addressing staffing concerns, ensuring well-maintained amenities, and providing better guest support during incidents would go a long way in making this hotel a more enjoyable and satisfactory...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePossibly one of the most disappointing hotel stays of my adult life! We were attending a wedding; my family had 2 rooms and about 2 dozen others had rooms in the Wyndam in the historic section of Philadelphia. I REALLY wanted to love this place!!!
I'd be remiss if I didn't relate that most of the staff (except the surly security guard in the lobby) were outstanding and he rooms were nicely appointed with comfy bedding. Unfortunately there seemed to be some serious staffing issues ... sadly, they still charged the "were-a-fully-staffed, full-service-hotel" price.
Unfortunately, upon arriving and parking we noticed that the bottom floors of the parking garage were under construction, there were a number of what appeared to be abandoned cars covered in dust lining 2 floors of roped-off parking that gave the garage a dirty, unsafe look. After parking as high up as possible to avoid the construction debris and then finding our way to the elevator we were greeted with a sign noting that the operators of the sketchy garage were not responsible for a litany of possible crimes.
There was a sign at check in suggesting that we had to "ask" for room service, etc. ... which we did. We never received even so much as a phone call or fresh washcloth and I never saw anyone on our floor.
Our first night we ventured out for some famous Philly cheesesteaks that we bought back to the hotel. We took our cheesesteaks to an out of the way area between the check in lobby and their restaurant "Coins" and began eating our cheesesteaks. After we'd been eating about 5 minutes the surly security guard walked over and told us we couldn't eat in the lobby and sanctimoniously pointed to a sign INSIDE the restaurant area suggesting the "No Outside Food" could be consumed in the restaurant area. We of course were well outside the restaurant boundaries.
The next day, the day of the black-tie wedding my wife started to shower only to discover that there was NO hot water!!! She had to improvise.
None of these things were serious or dangerous issues but the context of all of these disappointments definitely took away some of the joy from our stay for our dear friends' wedding. I would not have expected this level of disappointment from a...
