It’s a decent spot in penns landing. The accommodations are ok. Since my staying here I have observed and learned the following.
1). When the cleaning crew comes in and makes the bed, they leave the same comforter and padding that the previous person slept on. No laundry or change out. He just folded it and made the bed. Thus I recommend you bring your own comforter.( I went and brought one) 2) Even though you may label your food, there will be that thief who takes it. I actually caught one person trying to steal my milk. 3) even if the policy says NO PETS ALLOWED. They seem to allow this small dog that takes naps on the couch and pillow. now I know why I got the rash. The common area should be a nice hangout spot. Not interested in trying to avoid a dog. And if it was a service dog, it still needs to be on a leash and not on the furniture. 4) the dorm I stayed in has a mysterious odor, like being in a men’s locker room after a sweaty game. I got a can of febreeze to keep the smell at a minimum. It’s needs better air circulation or purifying system. This forces you to leave the dorm and hang in the common area but then you have to beware of the small dog that’s NOT ON A LEASH. 5) the cleaning crew is usually a guy. The past 3days, I’ve been greeted my men who cleaned the dorm area. 6) the receptionists are nice. But they can’t help you with concerns. You get the typical response. I’m just the help but I’ll let the manager know. 7) pasta night was a fail. the cook added sooo much basil/oregano to the tomato sauce and the pasta wasn’t even al dente , it was undercooked. it was NOT enjoyable. You need to taste the food before you serve it. Granted it was a FREE meal however that doesn’t mean you serve bad food. 8) the hostel has 2 buildings, I must say the one I stayed in is definitely a bit more dated and run down, if you plan to stay ask to stay in the newer spot, it’s more modern, clean and hopefully carpet is not as smelly.
Besides that, My stay was peachy. Clean place to shower, storage for my belonging and a bed to sleep on.
It’s definitely budget travel.. They tried but missed the mark in...
Read moreA huge thank you to the management, Jorge and Kristy for having me at the hostel every week. While not your traditional hostel guest, I received permission to stay twice a week, for approximately 30 weeks (or two semesters). If it weren’t for this hostel and the friendliness of the amazing staff, I would not have been able to complete my first graduate year in my masters program at Rutgers Camden. Again, not your typical hostel situation, but worth mentioning.
The fall semester I was always greeted by Kristy and in the Spring by Jorge for check in. They always were friendly and welcoming to me, and anyone checking in. They were both extremely helpful, courteous and even supportive, something you don’t tend to see nowadays. Even when I called over the phone once to cancel my reservation, Jorge was absolutely sweet over the phone. When I have interacted with the other staff members, including the new ones hired, they have been also very kind. They have no issue telling you about different places to visit and food spots nearby. But again, a huge thank you to Kristy and Jorge for the outstanding professionalism and service provided.
The hostel is extremely clean, spacious and activities are scheduled should you want a break from your busy schedule. The hostel is a walk from many tourist hot spots and close to many universities. It was extremely close for me to the PATCO to reach Rutgers Camden, making it convenient for my schooling every week. Out of all the weeks here, I never had any problem at the hostel. Just a fair warning though, people will be checking in late at night so bring a sleeping mask if you wake easily. You get used to it though. I never had any of the dinners, but they always sounded very delicious and I’m sure they are! Movie selections are great and up to date. There’s tons of space to hang out and talk to others too.
Once more, thank you Apple Hostel for letting me stay every week. Jorge and Kristy, you two were just remarkable and amazing. Thank you so much. Definitely look forward to booking in the future with this hostel again.
