Don’t give a dime to this school. They’re unprofessional, unkind, lack logical thought processing, and are way too expensive for what they offer. The nursing program is subpar, the professors are rude and uneducated, and once again their thought processes are illogical. They handle the Covid-19 Pandemic without grace, professionalism, or concern to their students. For example, they don’t require tests or contact tracing to return to campus! They closed campus in March of 2020 when there wasn’t a single case of Covid-19 confirmed in Pittsburgh, but they are reopening it when the cases are astronomically high. They also require all students for the Fall of 2020 to be located “within the Pittsburgh region” even if all their classes are online! This clearly makes it difficult for the people in all 50 states (which they boast proudly on) to accommodate to their rules safely. Not only was this requirement made just 12 days before classes resume, it was made without thinking of the mental health or safety of their students. Travel costs, safe housing, or social distancing are not things they consider whatsoever. Not to mention, they apparently believe that you cannot catch the corona virus during the day because visitation hours are not permitted during nighttime. They are, however, permitted during the day. I cannot think of one good thing this university has...
Read moreMy son goes here. It’s a beautiful campus. My son loves it. He doesn’t say anything negative about it. I give it 4 stars because of the housing/dorms. The University tells “pay early in advance” and you can pick where you want to dorm. We did that (months in advance). They constantly send you emails, texts and mail stating deadlines so that you have first dibs at housing. That is FALSE information. They want your money basically.. My son was surprised as well as he was excited to pick the dorm he wanted for his freshman year only to find out that the campus picked it out for him. Now he picked the dormitory that has its own kitchen and bathroom and was telling his friends and family how cool it’s gonna be for his sophomore year. FALSE INFO! It’s a lottery they say and of course he didn’t get that one either. I was extremely heartbroken for him as he is far from home, made the Dean’s list and just plain old great student. I really only want to give this 1 star cause how dishonest they are with housing. I do like the campus, food and other aspects of it and of course my son likes it too and that is why I chose not to give it only one. I pray that this...
Read moreI have graduated with five degrees from four different universities in Pittsburgh ranging from Bachelor to Doctorate degrees. I can honestly state that Duquesne was my favorite school.
I received a higher quality of education and benefitted more from the smaller classes which are not offered by other schools. Most of my educators actually cared about their students and were not at all condescending (ok, there were a couple). Duquesne costs a bit more, but it was worth it. The campus is great. The classrooms; halls; and grounds are clean, traditional, and safe. My child chose to go to another school, but I would sleep better knowing that was living on campus at Duquesne rather than an apartment in Oakland.
The only criticism I have is Duquesne has become more noticeably politically liberal than other Catholic schools. I’m ok with limited expression of personal liberal or conservative views, but I am disappointed when those views become a driver for the facility and administration to influence students. Some of those views have reached national attention which lowers my annual donations...
